Allocation for ED?

Hey guys, Just got word from my dealer (depressing news) that they dont have the allocation for ED ///M235i..I thought EDs didnt come out of dealers allocation? he said they are working very hard on getting this moving for my July ED time, they said its more of an issue that the factory has to many 2015 orders to fulfill before the july 15th shutdown.

Anyone know about this?

They feel confident that I should be fine but man am i glad i didnt book my plane tickets based off the ~5 week rule. Im spending 2 weeks there but man are we cutting this close.... Really want to be there to see the factory before the july 15th shutdown...

Have any specs been announced for the 2016models? dont want to lose EB and the the m "performance" aspect of the 2er if this ends up getting pushed for the 2016 model...

Interesting...

For a year or so, the Euro-delivered M235i hasn't come out of 'dealer allocation,' so there's no express limit on the cars that your dealer can order. At the same time, the factory doesn't have unlimited capacity. It's possible that strong demand for 2-series coupes and convertibles, as well as other vehicles built at Leipzig such as the X1, 1-series hatch and i-series, has pushed things to the point that they're having trouble filling orders. Yours is the first report along these lines, but it's very possible that what your dealer told you is true.

This seems to conflict with the fact that the dealers in my area (North Jersey) say that if I ordered a 235 today I could expect it to be rolling out of the factory in 2 to 4 weeks. How long ago did you order the car? Also, if they are claiming the factory is shutting down on July 15th, doesn't that seem to conflict with BMW's published production schedule that the 2016 2 series cars (except the M2) has an SOP (Start of Production) date of July? Perhaps the July 15 date they are referring to is the model year switchover date versus a shutdown? Two dealers in my area have said that BMWUSA told them the changes to the 2016's will be minor, the most significant being that a 235 convertible with xdrive is being added (which you can already see on the production schedule), but they won't have specifics until the ordering guides arrive.

Does BMW shut down all plants at the same time to retool? or maybe they stagger them (that would seem to make more sense), The July 15th shut down is the factory that you can tour while on ED.

I dont know what to think, Makes zero sense since EDs dont come out of allocation unless due to the popularity of the ///M 235i BMW silently initiated it again? Ironically the dealer said that if it doesn't work out they have one more allocation for a ///M4 they would be willing todo 13.5% off ED plus a couple extra things for my july trip... if i so wish to go that route (tempting)

They said they are getting some more info on monday from their rep. I hope im not the bearer of bad news for everyone

Sounds like bad information

I'd touch base with a different dealership before I took one dealer's word that ED allocation rules have change.

As much as we've done a good job finding a few good folks (this forum rocks for finding good folks to work with), this is the car business and its riddled with sales folks that are a combination of misinformed and shady.

I have a M235i for ED delivery (pick up in 2 weeks) and I ONLY got the deal I got because ED's cars don't come out of normal dealer allocation.

Popularity? The 235 is not exactly a hot seller for BMW. While the dealers in my area don't want to admit that, they do say factory orders are being filled in 2 to 4 weeks, and the reason they stock few of them (whether it be the 235 or 228) is that there simply is not that much demand for a small 2 door coupe in this price range. Not trying to say it's not a great car, just pointing out that there is a limited audience.

I literally just got the email that we are good to go, just waiting for confirmation on my ED date

I called another dealer and he didnt seem to shocked about that as they have had 9 orders for m235is in the last 2 weeks. He confirmed that in just the last few months popularity of them have wildly grown, I believe both dealers as im seeing 2ers all over the place now!He also seemed to think that EDs are starting to come out of allocation again...who knows the real truth

either way im good! hopefully it was just a blip

I suppose that's not impossible, but it certainly seems improbable when you look at 2 series sales data for the entire U.S. It's not like car dealers have never been known to stretch the truth :-)

This is a big pro for me.

I'm glad that the 2 series is better looking than the 1, but I'm almost equally grateful that's is uglier than the 4 series and more expensive than an entry level 3 series.

These 2 conditions are what are keeping sales down. Folks say why buy a 228i when I get can get a 320i cheaper. Or why by a M235i when the 428i is better looking?

The 320i and the 428i keep folks from buying the 2 series. This keeps the 2 series set aside for us enthusiasts. I live in Northern CA (but not in the SF Bay Area). I have yet to see a 2 series in the wild and pretty happy about that.

I love this too and wish it would stay that way but it won't just today I saw 2 235i's

They are literally all over around here last year when I got my 228i I didnt see another one in the Wild for a good 8ish months
