Guys, my order went into production on 3/31.. They're currently estimating it will be finished on 4/19. That's a long time, so it doesn't make sense to me.

Can anyone tell me how long it took for your car to be built once it started (Status 150)? I just find it strange it would take till the 19th to get to status 155 (Production Complete)

Thanks!

Now here's the kicker. That alert message they sent out about the F23 retro fitting the Top thing... It doesn't expire till the end of May. I wonder what that means for others like myself... Does it mean that when my order is built in April, it might sit at the VDC till the end of May for the top cover too? I wonder if the F23s that will start being built this week will get the cover at the factory? All I know is that I heard Recticel, the supplier, was back up in limited production in March and was suppose to be back at 100% on April 1. Wish I had more info...
My 230i vert arrived in Newark on March 6, and it is still awaiting the boot cover part. My dealer rep just called me and tells me I can expect delivery in two weeks - around April 17 - he hopes it is sooner but that is what the VDC is telling him to expect.

They started my build on 3/31 but the estimated completion date is 4/19. That's almost 3 weeks... I wondering if it's being dragged out because they're still waiting for the boot cover?

At least they moved my production up by 2 weeks, but I guess it doesn't mean much if they're still not going to finish it till sometime in Week 16.

Here's what happened to me... I ordered and dealer said if he didn't have allocation, he would get one. I called and asked for a production number for tracking and was told BMW wouldn't not allow modification or take any orders till April 1 for 230i verts. I took the ordering managers word.. But I happened to stop at a different dealer to just see a 240i Vert. When I told them I had order and the issue I was having, they checked their system and told me BMW was taking orders/modifications and they had allocation.

Next day, I was at my dealership... Sat there while the ordering manager looked in his system for allocation then watched him make the call to the other dealership to trade. They ended up trading an X5 allocation to get me my 230i..

Ask your dealer to do a search for allocation with another dealer while you watch. If there truly is none, you'll have to wait.. if there is, ask them to call and do a trade..

Good Luck!
Thanks! They did mention they were talking to other dealerships. How often do the dealerships get allocations? Monthly? Yearly?

My dealer told me they get allocation monthly, but that doesn't mean they'd get one for the model you ordered.

For example, a dealer might get allocation for the M240 every other month, if they're small. A larger dealer might get 2 or 3 every month. It depends on what they've sold in the past and how much capacity BMW AG has.

Toscana is pulling into Halifax now so hopefully no more delays. ETA in NYC early on 4/10. Doubtful I'll be able to pick up by Easter weekend but probably the 17th or 18th. Getting close though!

Was there a storm or something causing the delay?

Not sure. I pulled up some sea conditions and some of the ocean didn't look ideal however I'm not an expert on how it normally is so I really can't say. Just hoping there's no more delays at VPC or getting to NYC!

The Tongala was just ahead of the Toscana and it was delayed by five days, so it was probably weather related. Docked in Newark Tuesday , cleared customs and was released Wednesday morning. On a whim I decided to swing into my dealership on the way home from work tonight and it's on the lot. Still has all the wrappings, strut pucks, tow hook plugs are off, etc. That was quick, especially since it had to have the black kidneys installed at the port. Hoping to pick up Tuesday.

Congrats to you! Weathers getting warmer so you're getting it just in time for some fun!

Thanks! Looks like mid 70's Monday and Tuesday. Considering we got over three feet of snow on March 14th, we're in decent shape. I'm still cutting it close with the Michelin PSS. I wanted to time it so I wouldn't have to worry about snow tires until November.

3 days from port arrival and it's at the dealer. Wow can I be that lucky. I'll take 5 days lol. What location is your dealer?

Heck, probably by Friday then! I just called my CA and it looks like I'll be picking up on Tuesday. Just gotta stop at the credit union Monday and pick up the check, and then hit my bank for a certified check for my down payment.

Awesome! Good for you
I emailed my CA and he said next week is possible by Saturday but likely the Monday or Tuesday following.

I will of course keep this posted.

Order Time Line

My order timeline-

03/08/2017: Order placed - Dealer did not have allocation
03/17/2017: Order placed Status 111 - Dealer did an allocation trade with another dealership
03/31/2017: Order went into Production (status 150) - As of 04/08 car has not actually started production.
04/19/2017: Estimated Production completion date.

FYI: If you place an order and get an estimated BUILD Week, that week is the estimated BUILD COMPLETION week, NOT the Start week. I say this because until your order goes into Status 150 (production), you can make changes to your order.

My estimated build week was 16. I didn't expect it to go into production till 4/17, but if they moved it up, I thought week 15. Well, to my surprise when I went to add an option, it had already gone into production status 150.... Because again, Estimated BUILD WEEK is actually Estimated Build COMPLETION week. I was wondering how my car was going to be built in a few days when everyone was saying 1 to 2 weeks. Now it makes sense.

Tracking off the Wallenius site, I arrived at port today and also "cleared customs" and have "liner release" as of 4 pm. Can't find out exactly what that means it seems nobody knows but it sounds good!

Liner Release just means it got off loaded from the ship. It's now on American soil... at the VDC.

If you're extra nice, being it's a sold order, it might make it to your dealership tomorrow.

Ok that's what I figured...so it's being processed at VDC or awaiting entrance to it?

My CA said as of now it looks like next week.
