Why is this CPO taking so long to sell? [Carfax]
I've been following CPOs from Seattle/Portland area and this particular one drew my attention.
Usually, I've seen that CPOs that are 6MT sell relatively quickly (sometimes within a week if priced right). This one I saw dropping the price by 2k. I believe this one has been posted for more than a month now. The pics look fine to me: http://cpo.bmwusa.com/certified/BMW/...m?geoZip=97035 Here is their carfax. https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...1J7C5XGV289724 Any hints? Red can be a really tough sell. My second guess is manuals are rarely stocked by dealers and you pretty much have to order them meaning when you go "red" you really limit the potential resale. White, black, gray and silver sell a lot faster. Also there were still some 2016 new cars on lots that you could get $4-5K off the sticker so why buy a used 2016. If it was $50K new the second it goes used take 20% off so that puts it at $40K.

Yeah, what Lucky said. The fact that it's red and a manual transmission. Probably less than 10% of people want a red car and probably less than 10% of those want a stick shift. That's a really small market.

Makes sense. I think the red color is beautiful and I love 6MT's, so maybe I'm the 10% of the 10%.
I thought that there was something wrong with the carfax. I think about the resale though. |

I'd be put off by the heavy tint and the red with black wheels. The car has a been personalized a little and that puts people off.
Looks like the whoever did own it couldn't afford those car payments. |

As was mentioned earlier, there are so few used manual 1 or 2-series nationwide, let alone in the northwest, and one can assume that this type of car is not sought after by the general public. As far as the description goes, the dealer has it listed on the under the M category on the CPO website and not in the 2-series section. The fact that the CPO page requires a VIN number for the car but allows the dealer to describe it as an M car is just silly. On a related note, BMW CPO cars get mislabeled all the time. The number of automatic transmissions that get categorized as manuals has caused me much frustration. |

thanks for the other inputs. I saw a new car almost exactly like this in the region (red, dark wheels, fairly loaded, manual). That took a long time to sell (6+ months for sure). I was wondering if it is the same car, but the one I previously saw had alcatara trim, M performance shifter and aluminum pedals |

What ever happened to 'resale red'? But I have to agree it would be one of my last choices for color on a 2 (can't find the pic, or it sold - with the right accents red can look a lot better).

Red cars are beautiful but can be tricky trying to sell. Tried to sell one years ago and ended up just give mine to dealer as a trade in. Took a beating on the price.
