Amen to that. Since I was a teenager I followed the "spend half/save half" formula, and it's afforded me some great opportunities. It wasn't until I was 25 and in a career that I bought my first new car (cash), which was a '12 GTI. I plan to never go into debt for a car, again. I had this car on a two year finance and paid it off in one year to avoid paying the 4%, lol. Slowly saving for a potential equity jump to "possibly" a Lotus Exige S track car that my friend may be selling in the coming years. It will be a great "friend" deal, and it's my dream track toy. Only need about $20k, or cash in a Bitcoin . Otherwise I plan to keep this car for 10 years or so..

Planning to return this car by the end of lease in late 2018.

Don’t even need to mess with bitcoin. The stock market in general is enough to bank you some 100% return a year in 2017 if you trade somewhat skillfully.

It's a two-door coupe...those prime years are also family years and if you aren't at the level of a "toy" on the side, many need the functionality of a sedan, such as 3 or 4 Series.

The scale on the survey is also a bit deceiving. The 20s are split in half, while everyone from 50 upward is combined. Note that under 30 is 36%, and even the 20s alone is the highest percentage decade, and I would wager most of those are either single or DINKs.

I agree, in general, since the sample size is just under 1% of all 2 Series sold in Canada and the US. I'm no statistician, but self-selection I do understand.

Just shy of 70 here. I wanted a small, affordable runabout with BMW 6-cylinder goodness.

I bought my first 6-cyl in '85 (a Euro M6), later had an '89 E30 with an S38B35 from an M5 shoehorned into it, and then two '95 E36 M3 racers: one was a built & turbo'd autocross car with 434 RWHP, and the other was a pro-built-and-raced Motorola & Speedvision Cup car with 318 RWHP from the S50B32 Euro motor in it. I sold the two race cars a couple of years ago.

The M240i was the obvious choice for me, as I can use it to get around town and for instructing at the track. It should be a good general-purpose car.

I'll be 66 in July. Bought mine as a retirement gift to myself. This is the only car that puts a smile on my face every time I push the starter button. Glad to admit I've modded it for speed and safety (all mods are reversible to stock condition).

Bought a 2002 in 1975 for $7001.00 out the door with optional Blaupunkt radio and no AC. Drove cross country and many other miles.
Decades of many babies and being close to broke. Toyota Tercel with 4 kids strapped in the back. Then minivans, Camrys and Accords etc.
Slowly, things got good, and bought an E46 in year 2002. Then a Z4 and now waiting for my M240i which is the old 2002 reincarnated. Can't wait....

My vehicular interests, since my mid-twenties, have been: 1 flying aerobatics, 2. running the twisties on my bike(s), and 3. running the twisties in my car. Getting older has made no difference to my interests.

I bought the car for the couple days a month I get out to my favorite local road and my annual trip to the best roads in Northern California. Other than that, I get nothing from the M240i for daily driving that I didn’t get from my previous Altima and Accord. The ’01 Z06 was needing more and more maintenance, and contracting down to one car would make my life easier. The M240i seemed like the best compromise out there.

My retirement funds turned out a lot better than I expected and I had another 100k for probably the final upgrading of my toys. A monoplane won out over a 911 (not going to say what I replaced the Pitts with because any pilot could figure out my identity). The last upgrade will be replacing the CBR with a KTM 790 Duke (The Scalpel) when it finally arrives here.

The Duke reminds me of the cafe racers we ran in the '60s, tricked-out with Ceriani forks, Fontana 4-leading shoe front brakes, and any other other high-performance kit we could lay our hands on. Today, of course, those bikes are about as technically trick as most any '60s sports car is. If I were younger, I'd still have a bike in the garage.

I remember those days. I got out of the Navy in 66 (age 22) and bought a 66 GTO with Tri Power, Hurst 4 speed. I had so much fun in that car. There were not many upgrades back then but then who needed them with that beast. Got in trouble drag racing a 67 427 Vette. He stopped when the cop waived us over I kept on going. Big mistake, the cop gave me a break since I just got out of the Navy. You're only young once so go for it.
