fuse question - I went to hardwire my Valentine 1...

pulled the panel with the sunroof controls to find switched power (based on a post I found on here).

This was on a 2016 M235xi.

Unplugged a connector and was testing for switched power using a multi meter.

During this process, I was turning the car on and off to make certain I had the correct wire to tap (ie: to make sure it was, in fact, switched power).

Anyway, got it put back together - the entire process took just 15 minutes.

I then got a "Passenger Restraint System" light and my sunroof controls do not work.

I pulled the panel again to make sure the plugs were all seated properly which they are.

I'm thinking I might have popped a fuse but have zero clue as to which fuse the sunroof motor is on - my car was bought used and I do not have the fuse sheet.

I know some of the systems are really sensitive so I'm thinking the car was unhappy being started without something being plugged in and somehow gave me the "Passenger Restraint System" light.

Anyway, I'd like to check the sunroof fuse first and then, now that everything is plugged in, will have the restraint light cleared by someone with the proper equipment.

Any ideas on which fuse I should be looking for to start? Or any other ideas in general.

I don't think I screwed anything major up, just a dumb fault (I'm hoping!)

Thanks in advance!

I did something similar when installing my dash cam last year. The car doesn't like it when the plug for the passenger airbag is unplugged which sets off the light. I asked the dealer to clear it when the car went in for an oil change which they happily did.

As for the fuse...The fuse sheet that comes with the car is garbage because it's all freakin pictures you have to decipher. If you just search M235i fuse sheet on google, you'll find it easy. Good luck figuring out which fuse is for the sunroof

Haha - I found that picture you're talking before posting and still could not figure it out.

Figured someone here might be smarter than I am

Well I guess we're just too dumb. Maybe there's a egyptologist on the forum that can figure out the hieroglyphics

BMW must have saved 50 cents by just making a universal pictorial sheet rather than having to make them in different languages.

I used the rear view mirror switched power and didn't have those issues. Good luck with the fuse search.

I'm sure the airbag light warning is related to unplugging the connector going to the sunroof control area and then starting the car.

These newer cars hate when the car is started if something is unplugged

Oops

Ok that would be the same thing as unplugging your seat without disconnecting the battery then. Install instructions for woofers always stress NOT to unplug for this reason.

Yep - I know about the seat issue - I just didn't think anything related to the airbags would be going through the sunroof connector.

But, in the newer cars, so many things are connected electrically, it's hard to know.

I didn't want to disconnect the battery because the I needed to find switched power - difficult to do if there is no power going to the car

For the archives - it was fuse F20 (5 amp) in the front fuse box.

Still need to clear the airbag light but my sunroof is fixed

Glad you got it sorted out. How do you like the V1? I have the Escort 9500

I've used V1 a long time and like it despite its ugliness. Now that the patent on the direction arrows has expired, I've been wondering about one of the new escorts.

I have hesitated to do the direct wiring trick, though everyone says it's easy enough.

I've been a loyal V1 use for years.

I have gotten used to the arrows and cannot give them up. If a competitor came out with a unit that included arrows, I'd certainly try.

The V1 tends to be noisy (going off a lot) - but I have everything turned on and am used to muting it when needed.

I usually run mine on auto/no X band but it's an older version so it still picks up lane departure systems. I have the mute button control wired in and mounted on the bottom of the mirror so it's very accessible. I'm used to hitting mute too.

Escort 360 does have the arrows now i think. And i believe they have an app you can connect to via bluetooth to help cameras/traps come up as well.

Temping but my V1 has been rock solid for like 10 years now. I dont see a reason to change till the thing dies.

If you've got a perfectly good V1 I wouldn't necessarily make the move but if you need to buy something I'd def kick the tires on the Max360.
