I think it really depends on what you are looking for. If you are a tuner who wants to bring your car up to a certain level and will use any number of after market parts options and software to do it then go ahead and get the quaife. You probably don't have much hope of warranty repairs anyways after all that. I have never actually had a LSD so I can't comment on the feel difference between the two units though as a mechanical engineer I am generally interested in continuous systems rather than sudden lock up from clutch engagement.

For me I bought my car because I wanted it to be engineered to be reliable by bmw and of something goes wrong I don't want to deal with any bullshit. For that reason the m performance differential is where I will go (remember this is a similar unit to what is in an m3 or m4 and no one complains about those...). Being stock is important to me.

If I want a faster car I will buy one.

Understood. Both units work similarly, but the Quaife has no clutch packs to engage or wear out. I suppose while your warranty is intact, the mp diff will give you some piece of mind, but it certainly won't be trouble free outside of warranty. But you can find plenty of people discussing their diffs needing to be swapped. For race applications, the mp diff may be better. For dd applications, I think the Quaife is still a better fit.

Either way, everyone is free to choose what they want with their money and what is aj acceptable risk. I am fine with the risk.

Just got mine ordered. I'm very curious to see how it performs in Scandinavian winter.

Quaife often will last the lifetime of the car. Have a few customers with Quaife in their 2002 for 20+ years, no issues! And that is the reason they are going with a Quaife in their late model E8x, E9x or F2X/3X.

That is an excellent diff, but will definitely require a bit more service work and perhaps a rebuild here and there if used heavily or tracked.

Just got mine installed today. First impressions were that DSC works much better now. It does not kill the whole car if tires slip a little bit. Clearly there is also some more grip. Soon we will have snow here in Finland and can't wait to see how the car handles. I have not had a car with LSD in winter use before.
