It does depend on when your dealer can get a production slot, so if time is of the essence, you want to know if they have a slot they can give you when you order. Some will string you along until the next month (or more) when new allocations are given out for production slots.

Elincali, Gatte - I did order via Steve Thomas. It got into port around Feb 23 or so, so really only a couple weeks so far.
I reported a small ding on the bumper from my Germany driving - in hopes that it would be repaired even though the insurance specifically says that this damage wouldn't be. My ED car cleared customs according to WW in about a day, took several days to get to the VPC and entered the "Work Order Started" status about 6 days later than it was originally estimated to be at the VPC. Since then it's been in that status. No one can tell me what is being repaired, but they are repairing something. Hopefully the bumper ding I'm still estimated to be at the dealer today - though I've seen in my own experience that the BMW tracking system estimates can be wrong. My car, as of this morning, is still in the Work Order Started status. Fingers crossed that the internal system is just behind. I'm going to call Steve Thomas tonight and see if they got it. |

Here is an excerpt from a BMW sales specialist for European Delivery:
Mr. Gatte, Your vehicle as well as all the other tourist units are dealt with just the same and take priority over any other units that are present. I do not have an ETA to your dealership until it arrives in the U.S. and goes through normal processing and is released to trucking. Your client advisor will also be able to track the arrival of the vehicle to their center to provide you with updates. She confirmed that ED vehicles which she refers to as "tourist vehicles" are given higher priority over the others and get unloaded and processed first. It should be the repair work that is taking too much time. |

Well, I'm going to go back to my corner and sulk for another week. Just called customer service to see if maybe something changed and nothing at all has changed on my car. Still in "Work order started". It needs to go through at least two other VPC status's before it will be at my dealer... so not looking good.
Fingers crossed for next week. I'm still super excited, and at least I can laugh about the fact that I'll probably have my 4th bill in hand if not paid before I even get my car |

inktomi - You should be able to confirm why there is such a long delay. Maybe the damage is more than what you think. I just saw a video on youtube where they showed the cars being loaded onto the boat and the unloading process. The cars are less than 6 inches from each other and very tightly packed. Got me very worried. You should definitely try checking what exactly the work it is that they're doing and probably not hint them about the dent from the ED. I think that would be a reasonable request considering the delay. |

If the damage is much more than the tiny ding (not even a dent), then I think I'd rather not know exactly..
Otherwise, my mind will forever imagine whatever it is not matching or being slightly different or.. |

That's an idea Stiggy! Let us know if you're able to get anything for the delay.
I was thinking of hinting at an M performance exhaust, and seeing if it happened to find it's way onto the car.. |

He/She will then request the CA if they could test drive it and will get a response that it is a customer's car and hence won't be possible. |
