Driving back a 24 year old BMW 3 Series from Africa to Germany for scrapping?

COMMENTS

After the BMW 3 Series (E30) "Percy" was 24 years old and had 400.000KM (around 250.000mi) on the clock, it`s owner Mike decided to bring his beloved car back to the BMW headquarter for recycling. Will they take the long trip from Africa to Germany? And will the car be scrapped at the end? Have a look at this story.

Cool guys, cool car, cool owner Mike to let those guys do that. Very cool that BMW put his car in the museum. I'm pretty sure I saw this car sitting parked outside the museum last month. Must have been when I went to go see that 507 display at the Museum.

Almost 250,000 miles!!! And I'm worries that my car has 10% of that. I wonder if it's still at the museam. Great excuses to check the Welt. What a great adventure. Good job guys!!!!

Dont ya love stories like these? I mean not only did the car have a full lifetime of stories to tell but the bond between those fellas would be inseparable. I can imagine them 20 years from now sitting around a camp fire and one of them say hey mate tell that story of us driving through Nairobi...

What a great story. Loved it because I have a soft spot for South Africa and its people.

Also goes to show how bulletproof that era of BMW's are. I really want to pick up an E28 (already had an E30 vert)

Those cars run forever. Gave my E30 back to my folks at 250,000 miles and 29 years to sell to a college kid. They have first right of refusal when the kid is done with it. (He wanted the car really badly). Sounds like we should restore it if/when we get it back.

The odo still works? Already it's better than most e30s out there lol.

Still great video. I love beautiful South Africa!

Beautiful video. A great adventure...something like a Top Gear Africa special. Classic BMWs were not only pleasing to look at but were built well.

I'd like to see today's modern BMWs achieve something similar 24 years from now. Quite sure half the fancy electronics will be kaput within 10 years.

Awesome! E30's are great. My first one had 280k miles on the original motor and transmission when it was sold.

They should've just donated it to someone in need of a car. What a shame this had to be "recycled."
