finally. i have the THP. stock staggered 18 inchers with michelin PSSs. anyone know the weights and offsets of the front/rear wheels for the 2015 228i? thanks.

How did the winter setup do in the last couple of months? any issues? I am looking to do the same. Thanks.

So I installed the team dynamics pro race 1.2's today ahead of the weekend at chuckwalla.

They are the 17x8 ET 40 wrapped in Dunlop star specs (version 1 on close out from tire rack) 245-40-17 and I am worried, they are very close to the strut and rubbing in reverse at full lock.

Now I'm starting to think the ET 38 might have been the better option. I have 5 mm spacers just in case but I will test them without the spacers on street driving for a day first then remove to inspect for more rubbing.

Any thoughts? I'm on full stock suspension with no added camber. I can't imagine how the 42 ET Kosei's are not rubbing..

Maybe the Dunlop's run wider than the RS3's?

What do you think about 235 size tires with the BBS RS wheels, square setup as you are using? I want just a bit more traction.

I wouldn't run 235's on a 7.5 rim

Ok, car is ready and I'm driving up to chuckwalla shortly!

No rubbing so far! It just looked very close to the strut but seems to be working just fine

On winter wheels, I prefer a bit slimmer. I live in an area with a decent amount of snow, and slimmer wheels "dig in" easier.

So, Ive been checking the Tire Rack site every once in a while to see if the 17" Kosei K4Rs are back in stock, and Last Friday (4/10) found that they were. Ordered up a set with Dunlop Direzza II Star Specs. Got an email yesterday (4/13) saying they had shipped and they arrived this morning. Pretty good, yes? Well the first tire I unpacked was completely flat - as in zero air pressure. I pumped it up to 45psi and while waiting to see if it bled down, I unpacked the other three. Only then did I notice that the wheels are stamped 5-114.3. Invoice says 5-120. Got a call in to Tire Rack and they are off trying to see what happened. (After about an hour, the "flat" tire has bled down to 20psi but because they have to go back I'm not in the mood to get some soapy water and try to see where the leak is)

Did you get TPMS? and/or the optional gray valve sleeves ?

Did you consider the RE-71R instead of the Direzza's?

Yes - I had TPMS installed.
Elected to get the Dunlops because I have never tried their performance tires. Would have gotten the Rivals because I have had good experience with them on my Miata, but the 245/40-17 size is backordered for a couple of months.

UPDATE: TireRack called back and said that the wheel casting has 114.3 on it but the wheels were drilled at 120mm. Test fitted one and that is correct - they really are drilled at the required 120mm.

Another update: The "flat" tire from TireRack turned out to be a valve stem that needed to be tightened - local Big-O fixed that for no charge. Mounted the wheels and took a 25 mile freeway and really twisty mountain pass road drive on Friday and all seemed good.

Saturday morning I got in to set off for the Golden Gate Chapter autocross and the TPMS complained about one of the previously good tires being low. It was down to 24psi and one of the other previously good tires was down to 32psi. Pumped them up and set off - about 12 miles later TPMS warning of a low tire (the one that was at 32psi). Pulled off the freeway and got out my trusty air pump and inflated it to 40psi. Set off again watching the TPMS display and within another 10 miles it was down under 32psi so I abandoned any hope of getting to the autocross event and headed home. Had to pump the tire up 3 times getting home, so I was losing about 1psi per mile. By the time I got home, the other tire, that was the worst offender at zero-dark-thirty, was down to 32psi.

I took both of those wheels off the car and inspected the tires - no nails or other visible problems, so I hit the valve stems with a little soapy water and that was the issue on both. A little tightening fixed them but it was too late to make it to the autocross event at that point so the new "autocross" wheels and tires are back on the rack for the next month and I am out the entry fee for the event.

Needless to say, at this point I am not exactly happy with Tire Rack. I have been buying from Tire Rack for over 25 years and this is the first time they have let me down.

Thanks...

now i need to figure out how to unfuse the freaking spacers from the hub.....
Heated the aluminum spacer up and it came off physics class was useful at last.... aluminum expands more than steel

First track outing went well. The tires held up better than I thought they would considering I'm fairly aggressive with my driving. The car is well balanced and will push if you're too hot and the back end is easily controllable with the throttle. A little tap of the brake and quick throttle input can get the thing drifting. Basically, normal BMW handling that you would expect.

It's not an M car, but it's still a fun car on the track. It desperately needs a LSD since you can feel the inner rear wheel lurching and spinning for traction on slow exits and big sweepers. The car feels a little heavy but its better than the E82/E90 generation by leaps and bounds. I'd say the M2 will be stellar based on this initial outing in the "regular" version.

The electric steering feels good too at speed. I thought it would be too light but once you are at speed combined with the weight of the car, it feels like any other BMW. Brakes were amazing. I've always used old BMW slide calipers so this is my first set of Brembos and there was no fade on stock pads and no vibrations. Really, really good brakes.

Overall, the tire/wheel combo did great. I don't think this car needs as much camber as many would think. I did rotate front to back halfway to preserve the tires but I was surprised at how well they held up and distributed the load across the face of the tread. When they get too hot, they get noisy, which is good. You can feel them getting to the edge and can back off easily. Overall I was really impressed and would buy the same setup again. Oh, if anyone cares, I'm an instructor and it was around 93'F yesterday to give you an idea of the workout they got.

Let me know if you have any questions. Sorry about the lengthy review, there isn't a "track" section so I thought you guys might appreciate this more than the general population.
Just got the Kosei 17" with RE-71R 245-40-R17 I get about a cardboard gap between the strut and the tire... something between 3.5-4mm
Did you ever check if the BMW sticker on the strut wore out by any rubbing from the tire?

I can add a 12mm spacer I run on the stock wheels but that makes it stick out a little too much

For sure this is the case for the front, but has anyone mounted the K4R 17X8.5 et 40 in the rear without added camber?

Back from the dead... What other 17" wheels are you guys running at the track? And will all 17" wheels with a ET 40-42 clear the stock front calipers?

Garage List
Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. I placed an order for my M235i on May 9th, still waiting on a confirmation/order number/tracking number from my dealer and I'm looking to prep for some winter setup. Looking to get 17"s for winter rims & tires preferably BMW OEM or replica 17"s for my M235i as I don't need anything crazy.

Does anyone have any clue whether the previous 17"s from BMW will fit our F22/F23? I'm thinking 17x7.5 fitted with 205/50R17 tires giving for better snow traction (I live in Toronto, Canada!) and the offset on the rims would be somewhere in the range of +38 to +42? Or would +42 be too close to the shocks??

Thanks!
