Perhaps, but based on the recent M2 videos I think the M2 sounds better IMO

M2 seems to have a more natural sound, if that makes sense, sounded like my M235i with MPE. Everyone loved that exhaust note. F8X is meatier and louder but not quite as sweet. F8X also to me sounds better outside than in the cabin. Different sounds for sure IMO between these 2 Ms.

Glad you're loving the M3 Colinv6, quite a beast aren't they. That first moment when you absolutely floor it and unleash all hell

I actually prefer the sound inside than out. I'm wondering when someone will add a whole bunch of resonators to tone down a bit of the rasp. I think I'd like a cleaner/throatier I6 sound like in the N55. Should definitely be doable when someone figures out the right setup.

The main thing the M2 needs to leave behind is the gimmicky sound channeled inside the cabin. Carbon roof, proper 6MT gearbox with proper gear ratios, and no gimmicky cabin sound... these are among my hopes for the car. Otherwise, whether it is closer to the 1M or M4 doesn't matter that much to me -- I think it will have qualities of both.

Sorry to say that Colin but the sound of the F80 is the reason why I dislike the M3 / M4. I'am a real sound enthusiast and I have been to the ring a few times this year, heard a standart M4, a M4 with performance exhaust and one with a akrapovic system and I didn't like all of them. I even like the sound of my 45hp Fiat Panda more. The sound of the M4 is very synthetic. And loudness is not everything.

The sound of the M2 will more be like the sound of the M235i and that is fine for me because in my opinion the N55 sounds better than the S55. If i could choose, I would love to have the sound of the 1M Coupe with Akrapovic exhaust for the M2.

I still think the stock system sounds the best out of all of them on the M3/4. It's still not great per se, but I don't despise it.

Like I said, if someone is able to have a quad resonated setup, maybe that'll calm down the rasp. I do think the car is PLENTY loud from stock though.

Not gonna happen. If all M's and almost all new BMW's have ASD, there's no way they wouldn't treat the M2 to it.

The 135i sounds so nice inside. Throaty and rich sound... It's actually got a pipe that runs from the engine bay to the interior. Bet that would be enough for new Bimmers as well.

Garage List
There's an aluminum trim around the air conditioning vents and the center dashboard is gloss black instead of plastic, just like the facelifted 3 series. Maybe the M2 will come with the facelifted 2 series?

Edit: Apparently those come also on the current 2 series. Strange my M235i doesn't have them.

Hate to bring up new conspiracy theories, but has anyone seen the videos of the BMW DTM drivers testing out prototype M3/M4's. They all have non-M standard seats in them. There may be hope to get a true M seat in the M2.

I wanted to bump the discussion on the seats again. If the M4 test mule mentioned above had standard seats then there may be some hope, however one of the latest sighting in the car park showed standard m235i design but had the Blue stitching. As was mentioned why would BMW go to the effort of stitching only if it wasn't production version. And then to make things even more confusing member hayes180 said he saw one piece M4 seats at Laguna seca??

I've said it before, if the N55 does not have some special components and lack of CF roof, the seats will be the final deal breaker for me sadly out of pure principle.

I know this is pointless but I'm bored..

To my way of thinking... The released picture of the M2 seats with turquoise stitching by virtue of the size of the thigh extender and seam shapes, etc., the seat is not the same as those found in an M235 and may therefore very well be a special M seat designed for the vehicle.

How do you work that out?

Yeah, the base is the same. Soon we will find out if the seats are the exact same plus blue stitching. The stitching makes them bespoke the same way putting an "M Powered" engine cover on an N55 makes it a bespoke engine. lol

Seeing your point...

I actually find the M235 seats fairly comfortable but not to compare with the comfort & support of the M3/4's.

I'm not sure if M235 seats in an M2 is a deal breaker for me yet.

A line has to be drawn somewhere. I get it's an entry level M car and all that but you only have to look at competitors like Audi, AMG etc and look at what they are getting. Heck even VW gti has better seats!
They cannot skimp out on seats in addition to engine and CF roof. That's just taking it too far.

I still think the seats in that M2 pic aren't leather.

They can skimp if the price is right though...If this comes in just a hair under $50K, then it makes sense as to why they skimped. I agree, that if the price is somewhere in the $55k starting range and does not have those "bespoke" things, it may be worth it go get more bang for your buck with an M3/4 then.

Bang for buck is the key thing here in Australia. Jump from M2 to M3 is 40-60K that's why I put so much emphasis on not skimping out so much on the M2

We pay quite a bit less for vehicles here in the states & I'm constantly considering getting the M4 instead of the M2. I'm thinking the M2 is going to be a most fun car to drive and I don't want to regret an M4 purchase after the M2 is released and it's driving experience uniqueness is finally revealed.
