You and I both.

Once I finished shoveling for the bazillionth time, I promptly logged into Bimmerfest to check the F80 pricing thread and, yes, check the M2 forum for some new info, but as of late Scott's been quiet.

I want a Lime Rock E92 but all used examples are overpriced and I'm afraid of maintaining the V8 especially due to the famous rod bearing thread.
The 328 could stay as a DD and I can try to add an M2 as the fun weekend car.
Or trade and get a new M3/4.
Or look into a stripper 911 or a fully optioned GTS.

Decisions, decisions...

That e36 M really is something else man!
I don't think I could part with such a car.
The anticipation for ANYTHING on the ///M2 is killer! Just hoping my company brings good enough fortune to successfully acquire one

Made some research about the sizes ... the M2 will fit for me, the M4 REALLY not.

BMW M4 4671 1870 1383

E46 M3 4492 1780 1372

BMW M235i 4432 1774 1408
I agree with you, the M4 is too large for my liking. I went from an e46 M3 to a 135i and enjoyed both sizes. I sold my 135i in anticipation of the M2... really hoping the M2 delivers because if it doesn't I don't know what I'll do.

I did the same thing (2 E46 M3's then 135i), except after them I went American muscle. My current car is a nasty boat (cam'd & gear'd camaro If the M2 is aggressive enough I will make the switch...

I'd actually like to see how many people on here are looking at the M2 vs. the M3/4 due to it's size and not because it will be the lowest priced M car.

I am one of them. As brilliant as my '11 M3 was, it just wasn't as all-round fun as my N54 135 M Sport. The M2 will combine the best of both...and more IMHO. And I realize that the new M3/4 twins are a world of difference from my '11 but still, I've put my money where my mouth is for the M2, it's gonna be killer.

+1 to both. I believe that it is the size and usability of the M2 that will be its winning combination in the sports coupe market.

Count me in for compact size too. If anything, I wouldn't even mind something even smaller. Maybe a Z3M coupe revival would be fantastic for me.

This is a great point. The thing of it is that BMW seems to lease "more" car for the money. Hence why I do think there will be M2 and M3/4 cross shoppers. You either live with a little less with the M2 (the goal for many) and pass less accordingly, or you have access to more and pay for that accordingly with an M3/4.

Here's the thing - I think the 1M gained so much in terms of legendary status because it was impossible to find unless you paid a hefty premium OR got started on the securing one process early. Was/is it a great car ? Well yes, but not to the point where it costs more used now than it did brand new.

I expect the M2 to be "better" in objective ways over the 1M in terms of performance capabilities but not as "good" in those same measurements versus an M3/4. And of course there's the subjective stuff too - looks, size, etc.

I'm just not sure I have seen enough to keep me out of an M3 for the rest of the year. I'm willing to wait and see how the car is unveiled and go from there, but it's gonna take something killer to wait longer than that.

. Now that's an idea. My dad's Z4MC was the most raw and insane car I've ever driven for an extended period of time. With the sport button engaged...that thing was scary. And I loved it. Just wished it had been just a little more comfortable. Then it would have been perfect.

Absolutely re most of what you say but there seems to be room for a surprise or two in terms of the "objective" stuff. The clock is ticking.

Seriously, I am with ya. I am stoked for the M2 but that darn M3 is so awesome and will outperform the M2. There are a lot of new M3's on the market at nice discounts which put them closer in price it the M2. Plus I will never sell the 1M.

I'd agree with most everything you said....BUT if you've ever driven a 1M it's very easy to see why it's so legendary....it's just an absolute animal to drive....have never driven a more enthusiastic and enjoyable car. Add limited edition to that equation and it creates the entire myth.

If BMW have even captures 50% of the 1M 'enjoyment formula' then the M2 will be a success.

I think the 1M hysteria and nostalgia might make some of the initial reviews if the M2 challenging. Not like that happened with E92 v F82 except this is another level with the 1M cult classic status.

Weight is going to be very important. I saw a review of a 1L Ford Mondeo last night it was a 1500kg car (ok a very light engine) but that's the same as the M235i !

My comment wasn't meant to be a critique of the 1M in that way - more that BMW helped foster the insane levels to which people would/must go by artificially keeping the market to such a small sample size.

I have driven the 1M, and even though it was a very short drive, you could feel the craziness and overall fun factor immediately. that much power and the wideness of the thing in such a short wheelbase = insanity (in a good way). It is definitely a car that I wished I had gotten my hands on - I was just wondering out loud if it would have quite been the same if I had been able to get one more easily (aka, like the M2).

It's almost like the chick you always wanted to date, and you know you would have been a good match...but you never did for whatever reason - it just makes her that much more desireable, yes? Doesn't make her any more or less pretty, just that much more desireable because you know you missed your chance to have her.

Considering you already have the 1M (you lucky bastard! ), the M3 might make more sense - different personalities and attributes. Unless you just wanna say that you have both of BMW's little monster Ms (1M and M2), which I can completely understand.

Anyone else go completely crazy this weekend because there's nothing new? I really hope this car shows up in Geneva.

I've really seriously started toying with the idea of keeping the E36 M3 and skipping the M2. Here's how I'm looking at it:
- The M2 is not going to be lighter than the E36
- The M2 won't have the same mechanical steering feel as the E36. Keep in mind I've got a ZHP rack in mine and the results are perfect
- The M2 won't be as reliable (short term and long term) as an E36. That shouldn't even be a question here.
- If I get bored of the power level, not only do I have an E92 to play with, but the E36 can quite easily be upgraded (don't have to worry about locked ECU's, ect ect...)

So right now, plan B would be to keep both M3's, and replace my ageing 4Runner with an F31 instead. These look fabulous:

I'm not doing anything until the M2 comes out of course, but I'm going to be strict about how good the car is before I decide to get one. Come on BMW, hurry up!!
