I guess no-one is really bothered if BMW would quote "365hp" (metric) as official figure for the M2 and find out that BMW fitted the puppy in reality with - purely hypothetically speaking - close to 400hp.

The 1M has officially 340hp [metric] and 450Nm + 50Nm overboost. Despite being stock (no engine tune), mine already showed values of 362hp [metric] and 551 Nm.

Likely several competing manufacturers underrate the real power figures of pocket rockets on purpose. A matter of officially staying out of the bigger brothers' comfort zone + the possibility for the alleged 'underdog' to whoop the competition's a$$.

When asked about the "385hp" [metric] figure of the Cayman GT4, Porsche Motorsport boss Andreas Preuninger responded: "It's 385, but it's GT horsepower, so it's at least 385 [...] You know, we are always conservative about our horsepower figures - it's 385-ish, let's say - it feels more." The Cayman GT4 got the 3.8 liter engine of the 911 S, which officially sports a 400hp stock value.

FWIW RE: M2 HP speculation: Interview Fall last year

“Four hundred horsepower is the magic number. With forced induction it is not trouble to achieve this, but we have to make sure it doesn’t get too close to the power level of the new M4,” explained Friedrich Nitschke, the outgoing president of BMW’s M division, in an interview with British magazine Autocar.

If it's true that SOP is sometime 2016 (instead of Nov 2015), hopefully EOP is similarly extended. Otherwise there would be a somewhat reduced/limited production run M2 ..... which may be good for some but not for peeps who really want one but can't get their hands on one or have to pay a premium for it

It should run for a few years, not a single year run like the 1M.

Delivery date(March 2016) of this Euro demo car might confirm production delay. They always get their cars before US dealers.

How are people still disappointed with the 365 figure? Guaranteed just like the M3/4 and M5 the quoted power figures are to the ground and usually are a bit sandbagged.

I'm very happy with 365. With the lighter M2, It'll feel closer to the cars limits on normal driving, thus hopefully being more fun that the monster S55. I think it's the perfect number.

Agree it isn't getting all the light weight savings the M4 got over the base 4er. M2 might end up maybe 50lbs less, 100lbs max. M235i and M4 difference is 50lbs. Where exactly is the weight savings going to come from. In reality a lot of what is going on the M2 will add weight(more body work, larger wheels, wider tires, etc.).

True, but I care about the size of the car. Drive your E46 M3 and sit in the M4 and tell me it doesn't feel like the size of an E39 M5 afterwards.

The first time I sat in an M235i, it felt just right. As a matter of fact, it reminded me the size of an E46 coupe. This is really important to me.

I'm hoping a stripped out M2 comes out to 3400 lbs.

The M235i really does feel like a perfectly sized car for spirited driving. I am really hoping that the M2 delivers enough in terms of enhancement over the M235i to justify the upgrade. The 2er is impressive alone, better with an LSD and suspension upgrades... I will be impressed if M GmbH can rework the N55 to give it more life at the top end. I know the N55 really falls flat at higher RPMs even more so than the N54.
