Another option for coolant/boost/etc gauges
I ordered the a WiFi ELM327 OBD2 reader ($20 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AOIM2CC) and bought the ODB Fusion app ($10) for my phone on the App store and am very impressed with the capability. It has a ton of different items that can be monitored and while it most likely the app won't always be on like a permanent gauge, I don't know if these numbers really need to be known 100% of the time. I assume the OBD2 scanner can be left plugged in all the time, right? For $30 I think it's well worth it.

Great idea especially with the phone mounted like that. Does the phone stay in place under hard driving?

FYI, if you drive your car every day it's safe to leave the dongle plugged in, but it does draw constant power, so at some point of non-use of your car it will drain the battery to the point where it won't start.
There was a kickstarter a while back that was for an ELM compatible OBDII wifi dongle that will auto shutoff to not drain battery, but it's $100. And yes, OBD Fusion is great. Here is my custom screen tailored for our cars that don't have temp gauges.

That looks great!
I'm surprised it doesn't have an oil temp readout, but apparently the P3 doesn't either right now? Weird because it's one of the Secret Menu items right? So the value is there somewhere. @Jerich0: It does read (and I assume clear) codes. Here are some more screenshots from a drive I just did. Do you know if theres a setting for the app to show max reading for each particular sensor? Seems that should be an included feature but it's not on by default. |

Yes, you can manually set the range for any display, select the display and then select Display Configuration.
EDIT: after re-reading your question, I think you are asking if there is a 'sticky' needle that displays the highest reading reached in a certain amount of time? I haven't been able to find one, but I agree it's really something they should have. For now our only real option is to download the log file and find the peak values there.

Sorry wasn't clear...I meant will it show the max value recorded? Like if you floor it, will it show the max value of the Boost etc without you having to actually look at the the phone?

Torque Pro for Android does. There's a little tick mark on each gauge that records the max value.

BLAH! Why can't they have an iPhone app?
I emailed the guys at OBD Fusion and they said their app does not support that, but will add it to a wish list for a future update. Would be really useful if you're doing testing, you don't want to sit there staring at the gauge while trying to drive. |
