Turner Motorsport is fielding three cars in PWC

Wow, Turner just made a huge announcement. They're fielding three, yes three M235i Racing cars in PWC TC. I think there are three M235iR already racing in TC, so with Turner's additions (assuming the existing teams stick around next year), the M235iR will rival the Miata for representation in the TC class. Pretty cool, and a big step for Turner.

Interesting, I didn't see anything on their website. I wish they would run some m4s.

There's a link to the press release on their website in my post

BMW is producing the M4 GT4 for 2018, so I wouldn't rule out an announcement. The M235iR is such an affordable platform, I don't think this affects Turner's other plans. I'm so thrilled that BMW released this car. Programs like PWC TC are great places for racers to get their start.

makes sense. I saw a photo from COTA this morning and thought it was an m4, it's the m235. i wish them luck.

the gt4 will be a nice addition. i love how much they commit to racing that is why I follow them and root as much as i can. if i ever purchase anything for my car, their site is the first i go to so i can support them as much as i can.

I always wondered that as well. Fall Line was rumored in the past to be building a M4 for GS class of Continental Tire Series, but it never happened.

Teams are waiting for the BMW M4 GT4 customer program. Continental Tire Series and Pirelli World Challenge will be adopting full GT4 compliance. BMW has said the GT4 program will be available by 2018 season. You can bet teams like Turner will be picking up some customer cars for PWC. Fall Line and Bimmerworld will likely pick up some cars for GS class in CTSCC.

Yeah I wonder if Fall Line got word about the GT4 and quietly dropped their hinted at M4 GS car. Very excited to see what the GT4 can do in CTSCC. About time we saw a car outside of the Mustangs, Cameros, and Caymans.

hopefully Falline will pick up Ashley Feinberg as a driver for the new car, she did a pretty good job and has been driving a bit for Turner during their endurance races.

congrats to Turner's team at Cota on Saturday, great win.

In kind of (but not really) related news, Audi just announced a TCR car for the forthcoming TCR class.

Audi Unveils RS3 LMS Car for TCR

That's going to make PWC's touring car classes

TCR <-- New Audi RS3 LMS
TC <-- Turner M235i Racing
TCA
TCB

Turner will be racing in TC with the M235i Racing. I really wonder if BMW will come to market with a TCR class car. With the rumors of the M2 CS starting to grow, I could see BMW fielding a TCR class car based on the M2 CS

Will BMW develop a M240i Racing in the near future, ushering the B58 into service on the track?

If not, I wonder if the M235i Racing will evolve to use the higher output N55 as found in the M2? For that matter, I wonder if other M2 parts will find their way to newer versions of these cars? I realize cost is a big factor in such programs, but there really shouldn't be a whole lot of difference there from M235i pieces to M2 pieces.

Yeah, I dunno. The thing about the M235i Racing is, it races either as a single make, or in homologated classes like PWC TC, so the car has already been BoP'd to the class. I could see the switch to M240i Racing (with a B58) happening as the N55 ages out of production, but I don't know that there's any benefit to borrowing from the M2 parts bin for the current car.

If we do see an M2-derived car, I'd expect it to show up in TCR. The jump from TC to TCR is kind of like GT4 to GT3. The TCR cars are substantially more focused race cars, which would fit the M2's brand image very well.

I just hope TCR doesn't kill off PWC TC. Having four touring car classes is going to cause some dilution. PWC TC is one of the few top-tier classes* that remain really approachable. The cost of fielding a car in PWC TC is orders of magnitude less expensive than PWC GT. Maybe that's why TCR is being developed here in the states too. It's been tremendously successful abroad, so they're obviously hitting a sweet spot on the performance/cost ratio continuum.

The thing I really don't want to see diminished is the wildly exciting racing that we've seen in the "under card" series/classes over the last couple of years. Both PWC TC and IMSA's Continental Tire series have, IMO, had better racing than the top tier series (PWC GT, IMSA WeatherTech SCC) this year. In the races that I've watched for these series, there is a battle going on probably 70% of the time. The guys in the IMSA SC Challenge's ST class are flat out bonkers. Bonkers!

Anyway, I'm down a rabbit hole here. It's a great time to be a racing fan!

* Speaking within context. TC is currently PWC's top-tier touring car class.
