VW R400 instead of M2?

Reports are indicating it will be faster, cheaper and a lower production car than the M2. Reminds me of the 1M.

It might even be better...but oddly for me still a golf so I'm out. The AWD is a big traction advantage. 2l Turbo pushing out that much power could be interesting longer term on reliability but I agree a great car and some very stiff competition around when the M2is born late 2015.

Most likely not even available in the US so no concern for me. I really do wish BMW would make a 1M hatchback and bring it here, I'd totally consider one.

Wait is this going to be produced?

Thought it was a one-off concept like the Golf GTi W12-650

400hp out of a 2L 4 pot. I don't know how you get that not to lag. I think it's cool that VW is going to put it into production though.

Wow that's awesome! There's such great choices at this level, so it will be a tough choice for potential buyers for sure.

Nope.
Not RWD and probably no manual either. Not a drivers car therefore I am out.
Great power though, props on pushing the envelope on high performance production cars, wish ALL manufacturers would take such a bold leap

Still just a Golf. Rather an RS3 with I5. But M2 with I6 would anyway be better. Or maybe even Mustang GT350 with "Ferrari" V8.

Not that much choice depending on which criteria.

Those are great choices to me at least! Don't forget the TT-RS too and possibly cayman R.

RS3, A45 and VWR400 all have the same recipe..... front biased Haldex AWD, high boost turbo, high revving 2L 4Pot, DSG/DCT, electromagnetic steering. After my A45 experience, no thanks.

Nope, M2 or M3 is next for me, unless Audi does something spectacular with the b9s

+1

There are things more important than numbers.
Even if this was available in the US, in RWD, and with 6MT, and outperformed the M2 in every measurable metric, I still wouldn't choose it over the M2. And I've owned 4 VWs, so you know it's not a brand bias.

The R400 will be VW version of AWD (4Motion) like other well known systems i.e. Subaru Symetrical Drive. If VW does bring it to the US it will sellout in limited quantities as there is a big V Dub fan base here. I posted a YouTube video a while back this year of the R400 running "The Ring". It is stupid fast as you can see in the video many high end sports cars are completely trashed by it on the circuit. Will not have the refinement or upgraded electronics the M2 will have, but again it should be priced $10K less.

So you splash the extra cash and go home with an M2.

If a Pontiac Aztec drove just like a Ferrari, that doesn't mean I would buy one.

The release of several interesting cars in 2015 is good news: it also helps in keeping the folks at the BMW M division sharp to come up with an M2 motoring marvel in 2015 Q4 that is bound to blow the competition out of the water.

M2 cannot outperform m3/4. That means it will not blow anything out of water. In fact, golf R 400 is going to blow all doors off m2,3,4 IMO. I just hope they bring it to the US.
