I don't think the difference is "huge" but I prefer without.
I had Michelin PSS's on my Z4 ///M and recently had Potenza RE05A's (I believe that is what you will get) on my ATS and I thought both were fantastic handling tires. I would certainly prefer the PSS's (and hence why I chose them), but I thought the Potenza's were very good grippy and responsive tires.
Just to clarify: you specify run flats you do not get performance tires you get all-seasons. Potenza's are performance tires. You will get Continental, non-staggered, all seasons along with the lower speed limiter. Everyone needs to make sure the dealer does not check this option, if you want the Michelin's. These tires come with a mobility kit that is under the rear deck by the battery. They also come with 4 year BMW Roadside assistance if you have a tire issue. I had Potenza run flats on my 335 and the difference in ride between run flats and non-run flats is night and day.

So when we order the car and want PSS tires....Do we

A) do not select anything
B) select summer tires
C) *or is there another selection*

You select nothing, and when the dealer gives you the build sheet make sure package 2PG is listed (that is the Summer performance tire option e.g the default).

This is interesting.....maybe the solution is to find the best possible RFT, whether all season or summer only? Here's an all-season review, if one doesn't want to take the change of being flat-stranded, waiting for the BMW truck to arrive.

When do you get a build sheet? I had mine incorrect on the inquiry form. I have yet to get a production number. After much going back and forth and even bringing a BMW "genius" into the mix the dealer tried changing the order and was able to remove the "all season" selection but not the "run flat" portion so on the order modification form it shows an error. Will I get another build sheet at some point? Maybe after I get a production number?

I got that information, including production number, from my CA. Using that you can then log into bmwusa.com, and track production. Once I reached production complete, I went back to my CA and found out what ship my car was on. Then I googled the ship name, and was able to track it as it sailed across the Atlantic.

My question was more whether I will get another sheet that updates my options between now and when I get the car. As you can see, my original Inquiry Report was incorrect (first picture). After a week of going back and forth he tried an order modification (second picture) and deleted "all-seasons" but said he could not delete "runflats" and thus as you can see on the second form on the right, it was rejected. He mentioned that once I get a production number he should be able to fix it. I just want to make sure I have something that shows it is correct before it goes into production.

I just had my dealer email the build sheet. It does not say 2PG anywhere but it also does not list runflats. I guess that means that I'm okay?

My CA just told me the trip across the Atlantic was two weeks. How long did it take yours to arrive?

I have the same thing. My build sheet does not say option 2pg (summer tires). It also does not say run flats. And it definitely does not say option 2tr (all season). This probably means its ok.

My first one had run flats marked on it, so he did another one that showed no run flats and no all-seasons. Like another poster here mentioned, I was also confused because it also didn't say mixed Summers (there was no mention of tires at all). He then checked internally and said it was marked 2PG so we were all good.

The first thing I looked at when the car showed at the dealer was the tires though, and all was well!

Mine comes into Brunswick, GA. Surely, it doesn't take a week for the ship to get there from Baltimore.......

2PG doesn't show cause is a STANDARD option...

I had thought it was performance summer tires OR all seasons, however there was the other completely different option for runflats or not.
Which would mean 3 options, performance tires with or without runflats, and the all season which is runflats only.
I could be wrong, but that's what I recall.

The runflat and all season are coupled together.

It's only 2 options.

1. No options = PSS + non-runflat
2. All season + runflat

Invalid options that would get rejected:

1. Non-all seasons + runflat
2. All season + non-runflat

For what it's worth, my build sheet didn't have 2PG... it had no reference to tires at all. I believe (and hope) I end up with the summer tires.

Yes, 1000x yes. Run flats are poop in ride quality and handling.

The original equipment RFTs may be as you say but check the Tire Rack link I posted above. It appears the aftermarket has progressed quite a bit.
