228i

I think that the 228 I will be at a much more reasonable price point for me even though that m235i is very appealing.

How many if you are considering the slow, 240hp version 😜

Do you think that the 228i will come with a sport package, etc.?
for me: Xenons, premium Sound, sports package and that's probably it.

The 228i won't be slow with the new turbo 4 . You can get a tune and you will be at around 300 hp!

That and it will be lightweight! The f30 328i is pretty fast as is

I am considering 228i and I believe there are quite a few readers here looking at both models.

I would need the 228i to ---really--- be 240hp. I am transitioning from first an 6spd MT E46 M3 and then 6spd MT M Coupe to what appears to be an 8spd automatic. I want to be able to enter an interstate highway with people going 70+ mph and get up to speed as quickly as possible.

My car before the M3 was a 193hp 1998 328i with automatic. I was unhappy with the engine and transmission.

I am looking forward to the published performance specs for the 2 series later this month.

Possibility...if M-sport package is available. 300+hp with tune, downpipe, exhaust. Should be a really fun car.

I was kind of joking about it being slow haha. It will be faster than the CLA, VW GTI, etc. This is why it appeals to me.

I doubt there will be an M package in the 228i since there will be the quasi M branded 235i

There will definitely be an M-sport package! Maybe not at launch, but there will be one. The F20 1 series hatch has the M-sport available while there is the M135i (which the M235i will be based on).

Anyway, I am considering the 228i or possibly the 225i if the 228i is not available here, since we get what Europe usually gets.

Similarly to you, I will be ticking M-sport, xenons, PDC, sunroof, possibly Nav and sport auto. My cars are usually pretty standard.

I agree there will be an M Sport pkg at launch, got it on my X1 at launch. I'm sure there will be a Sport version as well since BMW has added "lines" to all new products.

According to the defunct 2 series configurator, M-sport, sport line and modern line will be available on the 2er. So excited!

I'm sure the vehicle will launch with "lines" like luxury and msport.... it is going to be exciting to see this pocket rocket M235i out on the prowl. What will be interesting is if they modified the control arms, bushings and steering to be comparable to the 4 series (that really only seems to be the only difference between the 3/4 series).

I would like to understand what exactly "m-performance" designation brings to the table given that the engine tune is the same as I have in my MPPK for the f30. I actually have 335 horsepower...

I think the whole LSD option qualifies it for M-performance designation.

But the current M135i offers no exclusive performance parts (AFAIK) except a slightly tuned engine, so it's just basically marketing genius that bodes well with customers.

but you will be able to get an LSD through m-performance parts on the 4 series... i am getting the feeling that an ///M performance model is just an additive of M performance parts, which quite frankly is kind of lame....

It basically is hey. It's BMWs way of making the clueless public think they're buying into the M brand at an affordable price. I actually like the idea. Adding the M-performance bits later on will be more expensive, so I'm always up for saving some money.

I can't disagree with you. There's something to be said about just getting the car with all the m performance mods already integrated into it. Better price point and possibly some distinction. But no M for sure.

Honestly, I'd be down with the 220i. I have a theory that the ideal 0-60 time is 6-7 seconds. This time allows to rev out the engine on the road, but still be able to get the push on your back that you get from faster cars. I think the 220i would fit in that range perfectly. Plus having a sub 3,000lb bimmer would be impossible to resist.

First of all let me say that I hate you. You own my dream garage.

Second of all, why the switch? In cars and tranny. Just curious.

I'd be looking at the 228i, the price of the 235i with options will be too expensive.

But I have to say, that beige one really isn't doing it for me. The red 235i looks promising, but that beige 220/228 looks like a poor attempt at making the current 1 series into a 4 series.

The 1 series is small, short, and pugnacious - the car is styled for its size.

The 4 series is that long, wide, low, well proportioned coupe - the car is styled for its size.

The 2 series looks to be an attempt to cram 4 series styling into a 1 series size, and I don't think it works. It just ends up looking like a disproportionate, tall 4 series. I would like to see the headlights connect with the kidneys, the car does look a little dated already.

I'm sure that like many cars seeing it in person will change my mind, and I think we can all look at the beige one as a "worst case" scenario with its color and hideous wheels and lack of M-sport (though it looks to be a modern line and I usually like the chrome bits), so hopefully when we see them optioned differently and in different colors, they will look great. Otherwise for the first time in my life I may choose a sedan (320i) over a coupe.

Maybe 228i will available with M-sport package like the current 128i.

Without the M-sport body kits just about any BMW is a no go.

I hope this car won't have the gremlins the 1 series coupe had.
Brake light seals went, third center light cracked and broke , hpfp failure on 135i, paint defects on bumper peel away after car wash, factory radio head unit failed needed new unit, seat belt pretensioners needed replacement due to fire hazard, heated steering wheel failure, air conditioner condenser leak needed replacement, peeling of interior trim. This all occur on my 1 series except the hpfp all under 60k km!
