~3 months is the typical time frame if you are on the east coast, but it will depend on your allocation as well. If the dealer orders the car but does not have an allocation it can take longer.

It all depends when your dealer gets a production (order) number and he's willing to assign it to you. If he's got an allocation for the generic (M235i or 228i) vehicle and you want it as soon as possible and he wants you to have as soon as possible, it is usually two weeks from when you finalize all the details of the order until the car is manufactured in Leipzig. It is usually two weeks until the car is on a boat. Mine was 27 days just on the boat alone to Oxnard, California. Other BMW ports take less. It is about a week from when the car arrives at the port until it is at your dealer. Bottom line: East Coast two months, West Coast 9-10 weeks.
Ask the dealer for the production number. You are nowhere until you have that production number in your name. Get set up on BMWNA with an Owner account and get your production number logged in. |

So nothing out of the ordinary? 6-8 weeks for east coast? I thought there was a delay in obtaining the VIN number...

Ordered 10/12/14 and I got a production number within a week. Car finished production on 11/14 and has been awaiting transport since. Given that I'm on the West Coast so a much longer boat ride, I'm probably looking at sometime around Christmas at best. When I ordered my MINI it was under six weeks from order to delivery at the dealer.

I'm also moving from Mini to BMW. Ordered Oct. 16th. Car should be at the dealer on Dec. 21st (if the ship schedule is correct).

DYoung, just curious where you purchased and how firm they were on delivery. Purchased my 228 from Gebhardt in Boulder. Ordered Aug 9th and still no sign of the car and no firm word on delivery date. Supposedly still in California at the VPC. Been there for 11 days.

Ordered in mid-October, but dealer had to hunt up an allocation. Car is now on the boat to Baltimore and it appears it will arrive at my dealer's mid-December or so.
So ~2 months for me, but it has seemed like forever! -K. |
