I became interested in the BRZ/FRS when I was doing a track day at Lime Rock Park in CT with my '05 Mustang GT. There were 3 BRZs at the track and one guy had put Toyo Proxes RA1 tires on his. He was doing laps in the 1:08 range, while the best I could do with my Mustang (on all-seasons) was 1:09, so I was impressed.
About 6 months ago I test drove a BRZ as I started researching new cars. My basic requirements were RWD, manual transmission, hopefully under $40K, and something I could take to the track once a year or so. The bottom line for me is that the BRZ is way too underpowered. I didn't even care that it handled and steered really well. As a daily driver, I know I would be bored by it very quickly, and I removed it from my short list. As some of you may have seen in another thread, my new car search was down to 2 cars - the 2015 Mustang GT and the M235i. I drove both back-to-back on the same day, and came away realizing that the M235i is going to be my next car. Despite being about $5K over my intended budget, the M235i is the driver's car I always wanted. I plan on ordering in December and hopefully taking delivery by Spring 2015. |

Congrats on making the decision. As for the BRZ, that could be a helluva car with a turbo. Why they (and/or Toyota) didn't have that as an option or another trim line is beyond me.

Oh, if the BRZ was offered with the WRX turbo, it would definitely be a poor man's M235i, no question about it.

Indeed. If you have a wife, GF or significant other AND they are going to occasionally ride in or drive the car, bring them with you to a test drive. The devil in me may want to grab something like a WRX, BRZ or other, but if the "warden" hates the way it looks, the way it drives, or can't get into it with a dress, you're going to be driving in her car a lot. The BRZ is a sweet little car and handles nice IMO. It's just got nowhere near the roasting capability as the M235i. Not even close performance numbers. |

Judging by your user name, I think you will be surprised by the lack of fit and finish in the brz, unless you are used to mid 90s economy interiors. I drove one prior to ordering my 2, and when I first got in, I was like, hum not so bad, shifts nice, stiff chassis, low seat position, some power.
Then the salesman said get on the highway, i obliged, shifted and nothing, I mean absolutely no power. When I added up the mods, it just did not make sense to get the BRZ, which would in the end still be a modded brz with no resale value. Plus I do not want to race high school boys at every light. Just my thoughts. BMW is in a different league. |

I'd gladly trade my fablous interior and 'refinement' for more rawness. This The BRZ pluses for me are LSD, handling, lightweight and simplicity, but it loses me because there is practically no rear seat, and i prefer the sound of a i6 over a flat-4.
