Cost of Driver Side Window Help.....
A bastard broke the driver side window on my AW M235i last night to steal my freaking radar. I'm so pissed off right know. Broken glass all over the inside of my car, it took a few hours to clean.
Any idea guys how much that glass is going to cost me. I already filed a claim with my insurance but I'm curious about the cost. Last edited by jmr0311; 11-23-2014 at 07:26 PM.. |

Sorry to hear about this. You're lucky that's all the damage that was done. These guys will do $2,000 worth of damage to get something that even looks like it might be worth 10 bucks. It's going to cost you the deductible on your comprehensive coverage.

Thank you. I figure I won't be able to escape having to paid my deductible but the other concern for me right now is, how readily available this "Driver Side Window" glass is. I don't want to be waiting for a long time for the glass, the M235i is my daily driver.

I'd be surprised if it was a big issue especially if it uses the same glass as the 2014 and the 228i. Since you're only paying the deductible no matter who replaces it, I would take it to the dealer and have them put in OEM glass. Leave the car with them so it's secure and have them give you a loaner.

This is a good time to see if you have a separate glass deductible.
FYI Comprehensive cheaper is far cheaper to reduce the deductible than collision and I highly recommend you do so. I have a $0 glass deductible with Geico and I've already had to use it 3 times...the total cost to lower my comprehensive deductible from $1000 to $50 + $0 glass was less than $10 a month.

Not so fast I was told, it will be at least 2 weeks to get my car back. I always do that too but the one time that I forgot happens to be the same day the bastards were out looking to strike.

That sucks to hear. I would probably spend no more than $300 for something like this. The dealer will charge you more. Some places will charge you less. In my experience the dealership is a crap shoot. I had my driver side window shattered and took it to a dealership that charged $500 for the job but when I got the car back, there were gouges on the side skirts that they tried covering up with alpine white paint (my car is mineral white). I obviously was pissed since it was a brand new car and they tried denying it at first. I still ended up paying for the window, but they replaced the side skirt.
I would have been better off going to someone highly recommended on Yelp (independent) that used OEM glass. They would have done it same day and much better and cheaper. Anything cheaper than $300 might leave you with either non-OEM glass or glass that doesn't seal right (have been there too with an older car I had).

Thanks for your suggestion Hyperzulu. I did went to an independent body shop in town that specializes on Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, and other high end vehicles. They told me that because of the holidays it could take up to two weeks to get the car fix. I told them that my main concern was that the car needed to be done perfectly and that time was not an issue.

I feel for you. I've had one car with a window shattered by a thief who took a BT receiver that wasn't even in plain sight (while I had several grand in audio equipment in the hatch that he never attempted to touch). So the damage was more than my losses. And then I had a two week old BMW have its window shattered by a tint shop, leaving me without my brand new car for several days. It seems like the more you love your car, the more likely crap like this is bound to happen, but that's life I guess. Hopefully you get things sorted out quickly.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't care about what they took, I'm more upset by the damage they cause to the car. Besides the broken window, the broken glass cause damage to the brushed aluminum piece on the door and the door inside panel has small cuts on it.
