1200 Mile Maintenance?
I hear that there is a 1200 mile maintenance that is not covered by BMW in Europe.
Is it a required maintenance? What is involved? What should I expect to pay for it? Thanks! |

1200 mileage maintenance is for "Real" M cars - M3,4,5,6. It's typically just an oil change and I believe a software update to enable launch control.
The 235 is not part of that program. You can get your own oil change earlier if you prefer but you'll pay for it yourself.

For any M car, they change all of the oils. We share the same transmission as the 1M, and I found it funny that BMW did not advise changing it. I did the 1200 mile change and I found plenty of metal particles in the engine oil filter and the trans fluid looked semi dirty (diff fluid was filthy). I am happy that I did it and BMW use to do this for all cars, regardless of the type. They cut this out once they started lifetime maintenance...pretty sketchy if you ask me.

Im pretty sure the 8AT is a lifetime fill so won't ever get touched, and the engine is condition based service via oil quality sensors and general use monitoring by the ecu. My oil service indicator is scheduling a service for 20K miles or Feb 16, whichever comes first. This will be its first oil change and its doing fine. I always make sure oil is up to operating temp before getting on it, unless in an emergency situation, and its actually had 2 litres (out of 6 sump capacity) replaced effectively through its own consumption during that time period.

I did the 1200 mile oil change. Cheap insurance if you own the car. If it is a leased car, I would forget it.
