Rear ended today

Got rear ended by some high school chick in a lifted wrangler not paying attention probably texting. Going to get an estimate tomorrow, hoping it's not out of commission too long. So mines a 2014 with 22000 miles, any idea of what I should shoot for as far as diminished value? There's no other damage other than the rear, no previous accidents. Thanks

The trunk lid and rear bumper are the ideal sacrificial panels - so if nothing else is damaged your lucky.
Was she crawling at like 5-mph when she hit you, did it feel like a tap?

Thanks, well thankfully she looked up from texting in time to stop somewhat. I was stopped on a country road waiting behind someone to make a left turn and she hit me probably at around 10 mph

Sorry to hear it. Glad you are ok. Don't open the trunk whatever you do until it's in for repair. Probably won't get it closed again.

Any car I have traded in with a tainted carfax, was reduced in value by $3000 at the dealer. Try to get that money from her insurance company so you don't take the loss in diminished value.

Best people to ask this Q would be your salesmen at the dealership - they might even give you a letter stating this (might even be a formal policy or some kind of algorithm, so it is clearly established fact, not just opinion). They might look at it as an early incentive on your next purchase, and trend in your favor if there is wiggle room with the estimate - and it isn't like the issue with mods, where you want to keep it secret - it all comes out in the carfax anyway.

Sorry to see that. Freakin people texting really piss me off. I would agree on the advice given to try to get some compensation other than a repair.

Damn that sucks. Hopefully, it didn't bend too much metal beyond the trunk.

My 2003 Z4 was hit from the rear back in 2004 requiring $16K in repairs. On trade 3.5 yrs later. I took an approx $6K diminished value hit, so I agree with Bill Kayen's $3K diminished future value estimate (above) for the damage on your vehicle - assuming you hold on to it for a few years. You'd probably take a much bigger hit if you tried to sell it in the short run.
Good luck.

So got an early preliminary estimate for a little over $4000. I didn't notice it but both quarters behind the tail lamps are creased. Overall though not too bad, I will going to get an appraisal once the work is done so I can start on the diminished value claim
