I am having the creak repaired based on a known technical bulletin. I'm waiting for the special German anti squeak tape to stop the creaking in the passenger door or around the HK speaker on the passenger door. SI B51 32 16 I have no access to BMW TSBs but that is the one listed on my service record.

Update: I think the glovebox is the source of a major rattle but I don't know how it would be fixed. Next visit I will have this taken care of.

Well, at least one of my noise sources has been fixed. I have an EZ-pass tag attached to the windshield and in cold weather all its hard surfaces start to rattle. The crazy thing is, it sounds like the noise is coming from below the dashboard. Don't believe your ears!

I had some epic vibration sounds coming from the rear deck under the rear windshield. It mostly happened when going over small more washboard like bumps in roads or certain frequencies from the speakers.

It ended up being the plastic lids that cover the spot where you anchor the child seats. The lids just weren't snug enough when in place. I lined the sides where they snap in with a couple pieces of electrical tape to make it more snug. (Can't see it since it is under the lid). This eliminated 95% of the rattle from those. Just something worth checking if other people have noticed this rattle.

They are doing the same to my M240i conv. Not convinced it will fix it but have to give them a chance

I also had a 'false rattle' from garage door opener that sounded like it was coming from under the passenger seat, so these interiors do throw the sound about. If you haven't already, try taking everything out of the car that will move to be sure it isn't something like a floor-mat connector or the manual in the glove box. Try shifting everything too - seat backs down, pass. seat moved, etc. As a kid I helped out at a body shop where this was a frequent issue - I think they kept us around 'cause we were willing to ride around in the trunks to try to figure it out. May help to make yourself a quick paper 'ear horn' to really localize where the sound comes from (or get a friend to ride along - this probably counts as distracted driving, and you'd hate to try to explain to a cop that you weren't trying to smoke dope through your ear).

My M240i Conv has now had two fixes for squeaks and rattles. There is a service bulletin that advises moving the glass by a few mm. secondly some special tape has been used on the seals. All quiet now!!

The special German tape is most likely your regular UHMW tape. It's commonly used to create a low-friction surface, with the side-effect of squeak reduction. You can buy some on Amazon/eBay and DIY if repeated dealer visits become a pain in the butt.

Since nobody has mentioned this, my steering column cover rattles occasionally. Sounds like its by the speaker sort of. Just grab the column cover when you hear the rattle and see it that's it for you as well.

I actually got a right paddle shifter creak roughly 2K miles in. Every time I pressed it it made a plastic-y sound as if it was bending or there was something loose. Very odd. They ended up replacing the part and the noise went away

Alright, I think I can help you out. I had the left HK speaker creak. Well, that's where I thought it was coming from. But one day I finally figured it out!! If you slide your hand on top of the steering wheel, between the wheel column and under the cluster. You'll feel a horizontal piece of plastic. It's loose and rattles like crazy. I stuffed an old sock in there and it's fixed!

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't had any squeaks/creaks etc and just rolled 30k kms this fall. I tend to keep my car very empty, in regards to items/clutter. I only have essentials in the car, and the ones I keep in the cubbies in the trunk, or in my door, are usually wrapped in a micro fiber cloth or something to dampen or reduce any potential for vibrations. I do this so I can hear real squeaks/rattles but have yet to hear anything worth investigating. Maybe after a couple of potholes something will develop, but so far, so good!

Same can be said for my MK7 GTI. They have a 100+ page thread in the vortex forums about all these noises, and we literally have none, just like the BMW. Same recipe in that car too, very low clutter.

Many years ago I had a Honda Accord that developed a really annoying squeak/rattle. We drove from NY to Maine and on the return trip the noise was so horrible that it was making me insane. I pulled onto the shoulder of the highway in the rain so I could get under the dash to try to find the noise. I got soaked from the rain and I could not find the damn noise. The noise was so horrible that I was ready to drive the car through the dealership's showroom window.

Nonetheless, I made an appointment to get the car checked out. On the way to the dealership, I moved the remote control for my radio from the shifter boot and the noise stopped! Placing the remote back on the shifter boot, the squeak/rattle reemerged!

The bottom line is that the little plastic remote was rubbing slightly on the vinyl shifter boot cover. Ugh - problem solved!

The bottom line, anything rubbing slightly against anything else can cause horrifying noises that seem to come from locations other than the actual trouble spot.

Per another post above - take everything, and I mean absolutely everything out of the car. That's the only way to attempt to find out what's really going on.

Oh, and BTW, my 2014 235i with 43K miles has absolutely zero squeaks or rattles.

Check the glove box latch I noticed that produces a lot of noise. Press on it and see if it stops. I did have a rattle around the door handle on the passenger side that they fixed.

Did you ever fix the creak around the passenger door/HK speaker? I have the same issue that manifested a few weeks go and it's driving me nuts. I want to be able to pinpoint it before I bring it to the dealership. It's pretty hard to hear unless you're looking for it so I'm trying to avoid the "cannot replicate noise" issue.

I also have a rattle on my driver side dash. If I were to press down on top of the odometer, the rattle goes away. These two rattles alone are driving me mad for sure.

It definitely rattles less but it's not 100% gone. It seems to be worse when it heats up so I will keep you posted. Honestly try opening the glove box and leaving it open when the rattle starts to see if it stops. I was convinced it was the passenger door but they both do produce noise. The door rattle is not as noisy as the latch in the glove box.

My steering trim itself rattles I'm pretty sure, the actually plastic trim around the horn assembly. I press on it and it seems to stop temporarily.

Hmm, it seems I'm not the only one dealing w/ squeaks & rattles. My 2015 228i M Sport has developed more and more over the first 2 years. So far, all the ones I've noticed:

- Steering column cover creaks - they put some noise reducing tape or something ..it's a little better, but still there
- Rattling in passenger side HVAC - they replaced some part in there, but now it seems the vent slats themselves are making a racket *sigh*
- Driver's side seatbelt anchor - replaced a part, seems to be OK
- Driver's side / Passenger side doors - some minor rattling
- center console - the little door in the front cubby squeaks, and the center console as a whole in the rear (where the rear vents are) creaks whenever I put my elbow down on the center arm rest

I feel bad constantly telling the dealer something new has come up, but holy hell it's ridiculous.

Frame or Window squeaks now

My 2106 M235i with all of 2650 miles on it has started developing squeaks. They seem to emanate from either the windshield frame, door windows or sunroof frame. It happens most often when the body twists such as when I go over undulating pavement or a speed bump one wheel at a time. If i go over a speed bump with the front wheels in parallel and then the rears in parallel it's fine.

Is there some rubber lube anyone can recommend for the door seals? Obviously I don't want to wear the lube every time I slide into the car. Also, what do you lube the sunroof rails with?

I really don't want to go through a cat and mouse game chasing this down with the dealer.
