m240ix snow tire sizes?
Dealer as an on-lot m240ix that currently has high perf summer tires in 225/40F and 245/35R sizes. I would need to get snow tires (Colorado and I go to the mountains in the winter). Anyone running snows on their m240ix? If so, what size?
TireRack only seems to have one suggested option, and it's not the same size as the summer tires.

215/50-17 front and rear on wheels which clear your blue calipers. Tire Rack web site will identify 17" wheels for MSport brakes. Suggest Michelin XIcexi3. There are threads on winter tires, but bottom line..."studless", not "performance" category for you and narrower is more capable on snow/ice.

If you want 17's then I would try to find someone on the forum who's actually purchased specific models of wheels and confirm they fit over the brakes/calipers
There are relatively small but noteworthy benefits to a narrower tire with a higher profile which results in slightly better traction for same tire design as well as slightly better rim protection if you have horrid roads I ended up going for a square set of 18x8's with 225x40x18's on them This way I had no doubts about fitment over brakes and can rotate the tires front to back next year to even out tread wear and prolong the life of the tires So far the nokian hakka r2's are awesome in the snow....and they fill the wheel well of the front/back well enough to look normal |

Although tire rack actually does test fit before listing a wheel as compatible, I can share that both BBS SR and Anzio Visio wheels fit in 17" size over MSport calipers.

I got BBS SRs (17x7.5) with Nokia Hakkapelittas 8 (205/50x17). Got the wheels from Tire Rack and the tires from Discount Tire here in CO. Wanted narrow, studded, run flats for winter. They have been great on snow and ice. As expected noisy on dry roads. But the grip on ice is sooo much better. The wheels have a little too much offset to be ideal for winter but I realized that too late.

Yes to this. A square setup is ideal. I'm running these tires and recently took them through 3" of dry slick powder snow, underlain by ice in a rather hilly area. They did exceptional and I would imagine with AWD (vs my RWD) they'd be killer.

On my M235i Convertible - 7.5Jx17 wheels all 'round carrying 225/45x17 Pirelli Sottozero S3
The ride is not much compromised over the summer 8Jx18 rears and noticeably improved in wet weather and standing water on the road which I'm putting down to the narrower rears. Not only are narrower wheels better in snow but reduce hydroplaning. Plus, these are very 'chunky' tyres so no surprise they're rated better than the Serie-II Pirellis in snow and are good at dispersing water, and not noticeably noisier. These are 3rd.-Party wheels from Wolfrace, a UK manufacturer: I'd been looking at BMW options but they didn't have the style I wanted in stock. One tip: My independent fitter always tries wheels onto the M Performance models first, before fitting tyres, as experience shows that even experienced suppliers don't always get the sizings right.

My m235 RWD MT Convertible, purchased about 3 weeks ago came with standard summer tire set up. The day I bought it, I came home and purchased the Tire Rack recommended MSW Type 55 17" wheels with the Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winter tires. They showed up in my driveway a few days later. I jacked the car up using the front jack points and installed the new wheels without incident. I am very pleased with the whole process and would highly recommend the package. We haven't had snow here yet so I can't comment on snow traction, but with plenty of cold weather and rain I have remained sure-footed the whole time. The wheels aren't anything special to look at, but they aren't completely ugly and I am sure they will make me appreciate the BMW Ferric wheels when I put them back on in April.

Hey p912guy,
I just bought the exact same 17" MSW 55 and Michelin X-Ice from Tirerack, and put them on my new-to-me 2014 M235 on Saturday. The X-Ice are obviously a huge improvement over the PSS for snow covered streets. (Couldn't even get up my driveway with the PSS.) However, I'm a bit concerned with the MSW 55 wheels and their 32mm offset. TireRack guarantees fitment, so I should be good. Still, there is noticeably less clearance than the stock wheels. Have you had any issues with rubbing? It looks nice the way the wheels push out to the fender edges, and I like the way the chunky spokes look with the blocky tire sidewalls. Very purposeful. But the last thing I want is to tear up the tires or fenders when I hit a big pothole. (And in Minnesota, big spring potholes are a certainty.) |

Tire rack offers free returns if they tell you something will fit and it doesn't.

Glad to hear that the MSW 55 are working well for you.
Mainly it's just me being paranoid with my new baby. Guess it's more of a BMW thing, as they always seem to be tight around the wheels. (I guess that's part of what makes them look good. ) And, this is my first BMW, so I'm still learning what's 'normal' on them. I've been buying from Tirerack for over 15 years, and have always been happy. No reason to assume it's wrong (just close), and I know they'll make good if there is an issue. In fact, I need to give a shout-out to Keith at Tirerack for answering all my questions quickly, and arranging the local warehouse pickup when the web site showed out of stock. Great service. Oh, and I agree on the mud-flaps. Those side panels will always be dirty. Then again, that's why I don't drive white cars. (Not that Estoril Blue will be much better.) |

Snow setup is always square and usually 1" lower in rim diameter. So you would most likely want 17" rims and tires. Very few 17" rims fit the M brakes, hence the small selection. It is also late in the season and they may not have as much stock as usual.

For my 2015 m235xi I purchased from tire rack 225/40R18 and 255/35R18 Bridgestone Blizzak WS80. I mounted them on the staggered 436 rims. Been mounting blizzaks on my bmw's for 10 years. Amazing snow tires.
