Steering wheel scrape

Ahh! My nail scraped my m235s wheel (that soft material... is it some form of alacantara?) a bit and now I can feel it sometimes... it's about 1.5 inches long, think of it as ridges... I feel like I wish I could "buff it out" but I fear anything I do would cause a shine on the material.. making it worse.

Ideas? Magic eraser??

Before you try that I would saturate it with some leather conditioner and use a hair dryer on it then gently try and rub it out just with your finger as you go. Magic eraser you're just removing more material and finish along with it.

Agree, no magic eraser. I only use it on lower door panels and door sills. scratches are hard to remove, the above suggestion is good. Just don't be too aggressive and make it worse. I use a product called VLP for repairing small tears in leather, cloth and sensatec seats. You might want to give it a try. Use a very small amount using a toothpick, let it cure for about 2 hours. It may fill the scratch, then you could try and use a dye on it, again very lightly with an artists brush. it. I never used it for this purpose. Most good auto supply stores stock it. I have an upholster I use for my detailing customers damaged leather/sensatec and he recommended it. He is shut down for 2 months so you call a local upholsterer and get his advice.

If you don't have good results fixing the wheel you might have a little luck fixing your hands....dry skin may drag a bit on the rough part. It may be better in summer or with a little moisturizer.

I use VLR too that's what I was thinking you'd use for this.

Garage List
One word for you - "Patina". It's these little imperfections that make a vehicle yours and makes it look like its properly used. In a few months of driving with hands on the wheel the Napa leather will smooth on it's own and develop character.

The best option might be to do nothing. It will almost certainly fade with time, and you don't risk making it worse.

Well, to those saying Patina or scratch... see, imagine taking a flat material and running your nail... and then little raised ridges form... so nothing to fill in really, and unlike a discoloration or something like that... I feel it... eek.

I'm currently hoping it fades with time (as I rub it with my hands)... though the leather conditioner+heat is actionable, hmm I'll think about it.

So what's the story on that material - is it leather? alacantara? other synthetic material?

I did the same thing and it annoyed the crap out of me! I recently got my car detailed and he was able to clean it up a little but it is definitely still there.

If you don't have a m performance accessory wheel it's standard leather. Alcantara is a fuzzy suede like material.

Something that bothers you more will happen, eventually, and you won't think about the scratch on the wheel.....

I felt the same way a week after I picked up my 228ix. Some kid at our pool whacked my drivers door just below the door handle. I was really pissed but I know a good touch up guy who repaired it. That is why I park as far away from other cars as I can. Good exercise.
