M2 Competitor - kind of. ATS-V Coupe

The new ATS-V coupe has been spotted, with no camo.

Expected: 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque

Looks pretty good, especially the profile. Aerial shots are taken at a very weird angle.

Still don't see this as besting the M2 in terms of design. Proportions of the BMW are better.

edit: I put "kind of" in the title because this is more of an M3/4 competitor.

Mark Reuss of GM said "It'll kill the M3." That's a serious statement. Maybe he can back it up, we'll have to wait and see.

The CTS-V has always been a very serious machine, and a genuine competitor even if we don't like to acknowledge it (those of us who still hate to acknowledge that the new Corvettes are actually a world-class sports car now, myself included).
But you are more correct about your other statement. This is more of a competitor for the M4, not the M2.

I hate the Cadillac coupes, the profiles always look weird to me. I think the sedan should look pretty good though.

We'll see if this thing can kill the M3/4. Those are pretty bold words. Having said that, this is not going to dethrone the M2 as being on my number 1 spot.

Me neither. I find the profile fairly striking, but the front fascia seems very cookie cutter. Not that unique. Where as the M2 render clearly showed a creative and complex design. It just doesn't look that much more aggressive than a normal ATS coupe.

I absolutely cannot stand the C-pillar (that sharp edge on that fixed side glass). Maybe I'm just used to the Hoffmeister kink.

And also to me, if I'm buying American, it'd be almost heresy to not have a V8

Now that you point that out I agree. Makes it look "fast" but also makes it easy to forget which side of the window is front and which is back! haha. The BMW kink is the best.

Yeah, it absolutely IS a serious car with serious performance, but I think it is ugly and...come on, it's a Cadillac. You're really only allowed to drive Caddys after retirement, no matter what their performance.

The ATS is a nice car with a solid plateform, but the QUE is a deal killers. Looking forward to the reviews!

Hmmm.....interesting. But it's not "it's a Cadillac" that throws me off. They've been pretty damn good as of late. It's the fact that it's GM and you'll be buying it from a GM dealer. For my BMW's I've been blessed with buying from a true performance minded dealer. And they treat enthusiasts with...well...enthusiasm. I just can't see a GM dealer (high profile Vette dealers excepted of course) doing that IMHO.

Every time I look at a part of the car that I think may look good, I notice another part that seems awkward and plastic(y). I test drove the CST-V a few years ago. It was a fast car but honestly it just didn't excite me. I looked down, was doing 100MPH on the test drive and was completely bored. Maybe this car will be more exciting but I doubt it.

I just got it - it looks like an American version of a Honda Civic SI. Ha!

Exactly what I was thinking.

But, whatever floats your boat.

Seems to me that the proportions are way off. The rear of the car is very bulky looking especially in a side profile. The hood scoops look terrible and the front bumper is boring. This will definitely not sway me away from a M2.

Hater's gon hate. ;-)

Looks like it's going to be a solid performer and probably a great value. Doesn't need to sway anyone, proper competition is good for everyone involved.

This is more of an M3/M4 competitor just like the CTS-V is an M5 competitor. Currently Caddy doesn't do anything as small as the 2 series and I doubt they will. The 2 series is still a smaller niche compared to the 3 series.

The ATS I drove was a decent car but the motor sucked. And the infotainment appliance seemed cheap. Fix those two things and they have a competitor.

Mark Reuss has more than a lot of nerve.

As far as I am concerned he needs to put his money where his mouth is.

I do welcome his enthusiasm, as it will only prompt ///M to bring us better M-Cars.

ATS is a better handler than 3 series per many reviews.. Yes, CUE sucks.. but new light platform is very good. Next camaro will come off of it..
Reuss does talk smack.. now he has to back it up..

Caddy didn't used to have that stigma...that was pretty much the malaise era Caddys.
BMWs didn't really have the "Ultimate Driving Machine" until the 70s-early 80s...Alfa Romeo was the "BMW" of the 50s-early 70s.
