Locked my keys in my car.
Now I regret not getting the Tech Pkg with the BMW REMOTE door unlock feature.
Stupidly instead of keeping my key in my pocket I was placing the key in the center cup-holder, so from now on key stays in my pocket. With my other car when I opened my drivers door my passenger door unlocked, so this morning in the 235 when I got out of my car to go around to the passenger door to let someone in the right door was locked and I went around to press the dash unlock button. At lunch time when I got out of my car to let in a passenger I hit the dash unlock button then when I went to the right door it was locked - walked around to drivers door and it had partially closed to where the latch caught. Total PIA. |

Perhaps you should get one of those little magnetic key boxes so you could hide a spare key down under the frame somewhere.

I was just playing with the iDrive settings - need to play with it some more - but I cannot figure how my drivers door locked me out - it seems to be designed to prevent the dash lock button from locking an open door or a door that was opened after the button was pressed. I must have accidentally hit the door pin

Call roadside. They can send a satellite signal that opens the car. Did it a few years ago when I locked my keys in my trunk at the mall.

I don't have Comfort Access and BMW won't open by satellite if you don't have their Remote Access (Tech Pkg) option - I'm cool with that - but I really can't duplicate locking my key n the car as I did earlier today.
I posted this so people thinking about not purchasing the Tech Pkg or some type of Remote Access option don't screw up like I did. |

I had the following lock out experience....
Unlocked all doors with remote, opened boot and placed gym bag in it. Closed boot with gym bag and key in it. Spoke briefly with fellow gym goer in carpark, only to hear all doors relocked. No comfort access. Pita |

I think it locks automatically if you don't open the door as it believes you hit the button by mistake. I would think opening the truck counts as a door but I guess not

You can also change the time of re-locking if no doors is opened in the settings. On the other hand, with the comfort access I tried locking the doors with the key still inside the car with no success - I wanted to test if it was possible and call the BMW Assist to unlock the car.

My bigger issue when locking myself out was I left the engine running - and it took over an hour for me to get my spare key to unlock the door.
I tried stalling the engine by taking a bed sheet and blocking the exhaust, though the combination of dual exhaust spread apart and the heat made that a failure - and I started to think that with a turbo engine trying to stall by blocking the exhaust may cause damage. I'm hoping that what my car went through by idling for over an hour was no worse then being in a traffic jam? At least my car had pretty good air flow to the grill. |

With proximity type access I thought that would prevent you from locking keys in. Most other cars will not lock from the outside if the fob is inside unless you intentionally hit the lock switch inside the car when your in there. I have not tried my 235 yet but three other cars i had prior to the BMW's would not allow the fob to be accidentally locked in.....

My girlfriend has left her key in the front seat in her purse before. Door would not open if it has been locked from outside.
Comfort access has to be very close to the door to work, I had my key in a breast pocket of a suit once and had to lean down to unlock. At least this has been my experience. Feel free to chime in with any other tests. |

Another great standard feature on the 235. No tech package, but CA is standard and if I figure out a way to lock the keys in the car I call and they magically open it up.
