Is this normal for the M235i Exhaust Valve?
My exhaust valve appears to be always open... it does not matter off, on, idle, revving, cold start, hot start, comfort and sport mode... all the time is open and of course both tailpipes make soot all the time... I checked the valve and all seem in order, the cable to the motor actuator is connected... is this normal?
Could you guys help me out and look in your cars when its open or closed? mine even is open with the engine off.. Thanks! JC |

Don't sound good to me, why would they have an actuator if it's always open? My 435i is closed on one side in comfort below 4k rpm, think it's open in sports

My understanding is that it may be temperature related and given you are in mexico it may be open at all time.

Looking in to this one. It is Closed when louder and open when quiet. I can only get mine to close when in sports mode and moving. I had my muffler deleted and the valve welded back in. Looking at the muffle the valve closed would force the exhaust out the short (louder side) of the muffler. The valve open is the quieter setting.

I wouldn't worry about it. Lots of people, including myself, disconnect the actuator when the flap is open to give a better exhaust note. People call it the golf tee mod as on earlier cars this was done with a golf tee rather than disconnecting the actuator.

However I noticed exhaust is only coming out of the right side of the tailpipe? Would that be open or closed? I was under the impression exhaust coming out both pipes would be open? |

Figured it out. Right side only is open. Also to anyone trying to do this mod its the easiest thing ever. |

The flap is on the left tailpipe. In order to get it to stay open, you need to pull the plug when the flap is open so right after you drive. you can look down the pipe and see if its open or not. My exhaust burbles even in eco mode given the right conditions.
