I have to say that all these extras in the Premium should be included in a $33-34 Thousand dollar car. The way I look at it they are. The extra 4-5 thousand is the premium for getting a car that drives like a BMW

Again reminding me how well BMW Canada configured the base M235i to my tastes. Auto-dimming rear view, Mich PSS, leather seats, cold weather package, 40/20/40 rear seat, lighting package - all standard. No need to pay $$$ for the dubious "premium package" with only a few inconsequential "wants."
Did I mention that AT and moonroof were options?

BMW is S.L.O.W.L.Y moving to convenience, but for a price as usual. I appreciated the old $500 Comfort option too without having to do premium pack now. In this day and age, if the Mustangs have comfort unlock/lock AND start, then its time to throw that in BMW, what do you think? Can't cost that much now per vehicle given the margins...
Oh wait we still need to pay $500 for folding rear seats on some models. Yup, we pay for what the obvious manufactures throw in. BUT she sure drives good!

All my other cars have free Comfort Access that include not only hands free entry and start but also move seat automatically back and lift the steering wheel up to allow for easy entry. Funny that a technology available in a 8 year old Lexus for free is not on the BMW....

Is driver memory with the leather or premium package? It doesn't list separately on the BMW builder as a premium package benefit.

Comfort access also lets you roll up the windows, close the sunroof, and lock the doors by simply touching the ribbed part.
If you want to close everything and lock the car just keep your finger on the little sensor until everything shuts. Pretty handy, but I if I had to use a fob for that I wouldn't mind either. To open up the windows and sunroof before getting in you can use the fob, just hold the open button longer. I don't think that's part of the "comfort" pkg exclusively, anyone without comfort confirm that you can unlock and open the windows and roof with the fob? On my 335i comfort also lets you open the trunk with a quick "kick" under the rear bumper sensor. PITA until you figure out how to do it, then it works fine. It's a convenience, a silly one, but there none the less. I would actually prefer a slot to stick the fob into because it simply reminds me to take the fob/key when I go to my car. I've actually forgotten my fob a few times in the house because I don't use it physically very often. As long as it's in your pocket everything works fine, but that has led me to forget to grab my fob a few times, and that's not convenient when I have to go back into the house to get it, or worse if I leave it on my desk at work if I've taken it out for whatever reason. You get used to it. But I'm with the camp that it's an answer to a question no one asked except for car makers looking for more gimmicks and gadgets to sell cars. I'd still buy a BMW even if it didn't have comfort access. |

I like my comfort access, but it was a little better on my 2005 C6 corvette. that system automatically locked the car as you walked away and unlocked it as you came back. didn't have to touch or do anything.
