As I heard from insiders outside the building, the first year production M2s will have limited edition cupholders.

But what about bespoke rearviewmirrors, and the stitching of the seats? How much more will an electric powerseat weigh vs a manual one?

Will it have PDC front and rear as standard?
And a sunroof? As an option, because I don't want one.

Decisions decisions decisions.

The overkill of questions makes me mad.

*gets a coffee*

Cheers

6 cylinder engine, very nice. And much more power than its predecessor 1M, which was already a great car. Awesome!

No, the N54T was used in the Z4 35is before the 1M and still is in production today... cooling system (larger water cooler), exhaust (race cat vs normal cats) and engine cover was changed in the 1M though.

Subpar because it isn't the most powerful?

Z4M and M Coupe had the same S54 as the e46 M3

During the e46 M3 time didn't BMW put the detuned s54 M3 engine into the Z3 M and later the Z4 M??

The M2 would be much more special with an S55 engine!

The S55 used the N55 as a a starting point. It has a new block, oil pan, crank shaft, rods, pistons, head, turbos, intercooler, etc... There is not much left in common with the N55 except the bore, stroke and cylinder spacing.

How in the hell are they going to get to 380 BHP without doing a whole lot more than that???
Perhaps a better factory turbo, fmic, intake, charge pipe, or dp. This means to me the engine should be able to stand more stress than the current N55 or they wouldn't issue their standard factory warranty.

The M2 start of production is said to be scheduled for late Fall 2015, which places the first deliveries at the very end of 2015 or early 2016.

Confirming what we reported earlier, we've been told that the M2 will be powered by the N55 turbo inline 6 engine (N55B30T0), producing around 370-380 PS (365-375 HP).

BMW M reportedly also considered a "S48" engine for the M2, presumably an inline four cylinder turbo derived from the (future) B48 engine family. For whatever reason, this engine did not make the cut and we know now that the N55 inline six engine will power the M2.

The code nickname for the M2 is "pyrat2." Why pyrat2? If you recall, the 1M coupe's nickname was "pyrat."

The model code for the M2 will be F87. We do not expect a limited production cycle as the 1M experienced.

Add in new forged internals, possibly stolen from the M3/4. The real question will be what improvements are made in breathing and throttle response. Makes me wonder how much parts commonality it will have with the S55, even though they are calling it an N55.

Ultimately, they need to get two things right with this car - the steering and the throttle response. The M235 is a great starting point, but there is definitely room for improvement. I think the M3/4 will give us some idea of what to expect. Hopefully, it will be better with 2 years more experience with the new M-EPS.

Lastly, I would hope for some weight savings. The M235 is heavy. I would hope to see a curb weight around 3300 lbs (sub 3000 would be even better, but probably isn't possible), but even 3300 may be a stretch depending on budget and how much they are willing to pull parts from the M3/4.
