I get it, you have a 1M which may be obsolete soon. Don't sweat it, but I doubt BMW will slow down progress because of you.

When we see what the final M2 will look like, when/if it's released we can do real comparos.

Maybe the M Badge will be diluted but it will only be in the eyes of the "purists" and not everyday consumers.
If BMW can throw in a stock N55, with a slight tune, M Brakes and slap a M badge on it to get more market penetration at a cheaper price point than the direct competition (usintg existing manufacturing/tooling), it's could be considered marketing genius. Especially since most BMW's already outperform their competition and a smaller/less expensive M2 would appeal to a much younger demographic.

I'd say leave the marketing and engineering to BMW.
It seems like everyone would like a replacement for the e92/M3 sub 50k.
Ain't gonna happen.
Obsolete?

Tell me why and others also hear the voice of reason and benefit from that.

Maybe you convince me and I get rid of my soon-to-be obsolete ride just on time to get a new engineering marvel.

Needs a de-badge and a LSD. Then I'm sold.

Cool! What's the Infiniti Q60? I didn't know that Infiniti had a 2 series competitor

This has the cleanest front facia of any modern bmw. The roof is too high though and its too narrow. But that front end is nice

Yeah! One of the nicest brake-lights I've seen on a BMW in a while. I couldn't be happier

I hope the diffuser is a departure from the M135i's, which is rather odd. The signs are good so far though

That's not what I was expecting at all. Was thinking I was going to see a 2 piece taillight. Interesting move

They actually look really aggressive. I like the swooping line within the light itself - a nice upgrade over my E82.

I'm curious about the diffuser as well - because the body panels are different than the M135, I would think we would have to get something different no matter what.

Yep, that swooping line is sweet.

I also think it will be an all-new diffuser. October 25th can't come soon enough..

So all 2 Series in the US will have the M Sport package, including all 228i? It appears that is what the information card says.

You're right, it's an interesting decision for sure. It is quite unique compared to the other BMW light designs.

I think that was the deal with the 135 right ?

Makes sense or me - how can it be an "M"235 without having at least that.

EDIT - I meant the M235 only

Will takes cues from the 435i M Sport (not performance) diffuser.

That doesn't seem right. I think the card was aimed at the M235i only, which falls in the 2 series category..

If you can't see that, I dunno what to say.
I prefer to see things when they actually happen, thank you very much.

It happens then it happens, otherwise all I see is wishful thinking here and a product which is very little to make it any different, different than a M135i and a 435i, other than its size and body style. And I do care because it matters to me when BMW launches new small coupes.

You prefer to think that I bash it because I own a 1M; as a matter of fact, I don't bash it, I just voice a slight disappointment because it is not as distinct as I would like it to be.

You don't like what I say, don't like it, but last time I checked this was a public forum for people to post whatever they feel right; and I feel that there is a lot wrong about BMWs getting too similar to each other and when someone with zero notion (not you) tries to put this car in the same basket with a car like 1M this is a bit beyond acceptable, yes!

You want to see it when it actually happens, but criticize it as wishful thinking and "little to make it different" before you have all the specs/details? You're entitled to you opinion and seem happy with your 1M. Good deal. No defender there...

I think it looks great and hopefully Alumac is spot on that it has full M development and we'll see a great little coupe.
With the front facia and rear I think it makes the 1M look dated also, and hopefully we'll see used 1M we can buy at a discount to track!!

The amount of whining in this thread about what is M vs M### is getting absurd. Must mean it's going to be an awesome car.

Well, at least I agree that used prices of 1Ms were/are exaggerated a bit. I like it for sure but yes it was not fair second hand market. Couldn't care less anyway since I have zero interest in getting rid of it...maybe for a Alfa 4C if they offer it with a stick in near future.

There will be practically nobody selling their 1Ms because of this car, or new 2 series in general; maybe because of a interesting M2 if that happens, yes then. So, who wants to see 1M prices drop might still wait.

If you think there is anything outdated about the looks of 1M that is because you are not driving one every day on public roads. It is fresh and when newer cars like 2 series and M4 continue to use design themes which were introduced by 1M it will simply continue to remain fresh long time and attract people's attention whereever you go. It is the benchmark M car, a prototype study of the M division in limited numbers for a new generation of M (and obviously M Perf.) cars, and untill this thread I thought that was more than obvious already.

What they should inherit from 1M was nothing but its boldness and simplicity, I just don't see that happening with this M235i, not yet at least. For now, I see a crowd pleaser.
