M235i to M2
Has anyone made the switch for their DD vehicle? What would you say are the pros and cons?

That said in a few years I'd consider keeping my current convertible and adding an M2 GC to the stable. Would be a better compliment than another 2-door. Have a deposit down at the dealer to ensure I get the first one if they build it.

I've driven both, M2 has more drama ( in a positive way) however I ended up with a m235 xdrive, I needed a car for winter driving. My opinion: if you live in north and want a car for all seasons: m235 xdrive, otherwise go for M2

I do believe that I will upgrade from my M240i to the M2 when my lease is up, I have no complaints about the M240i - but something even more focused would be even better.
I live in South Jersey right outside Philadelphia and don't need AWD (my commute is all highway), a good set of winter tires is fine. If the snow apocalypse happens then we have my wife's X1 with it's winter tires. |

GC will be great. I don't like big car so wouldn't do an M5 or anything like that. Also will end up w dad's sport wagon at some point so the 235 vert, M2 GC and Dinan sport wagon kind of makes sense in aggregate.

I "WANT" an M2..... I did a 700 mile road trip recently in the M240 and the ability to go back and forth between Sport+ and Comfort mode is quite nice........700 miles in an M2 with a suspension more punishing than the M240 in sport would have been very unpleasant |

I'm perfectly happy with my M235i. I have no plans to change to an M2.

Some of those pros can be cons, or at least a push, depending on the driver. Cosmetics who knows toss up on what you prefer. Suspension and wheel setup maybe a con for some depending on roads in their area. Neither is bad but one will def be better for each person based on what they need to / want to do with the car. Loaded 240 vs M2 close enough in price not to matter - unless you need to lease.

I feel the m235i is too soft even in sport mode so a m2 would be perfect.

If there is an M2 GC out right now I would get it in a heartbeat. I like the size of the 2 series so a 4 door coupe is just so perfect.

Yeah stock suspension. If I decide keep the car I'd go with some KWs

Almost a year into a 235 and having driven the M2, It's really not worth it IMHO.. The suspension is for track or weekenders and the cost still isn't justified unless you can't live without it.
Would do a new 240 in a heartbeat before the M2. Besides, I can actually get a 240.. M2? Not so much.. |

So that's always been the reason to my question... I'm on Dinan Suspension, tuned, downpiped and a few other goodies. I'm not sure if I can honestly gain that much more in terms of driving feel. Plus I don't track or race...I'm mainly highway miles all day / every day. Obviously the car is more aggressive looking...but how much would I gain from where I am right now? I still have yet to drive an M2 - BTW |

I have driven both m2 and my modded 235 on track and roads.
Most ppl will chose m2 over 240/235 simply to be part of the M club. There isn't a big difference in price if your buying it. The interior is exactly the same apart from the blue stitching in the seats. DCT in the m2 is nice, but the zf in the 35/40 is no slouch and wouldn't be a deciding factor. Suspension in the m2 is much stiffer and handles tracking better than a 240/235. This can easily be fixed by some modding. Brakes, i'd say m2 stock are better, but its less than 1k to change your 235/40 config to SS brake lines, new pads, rotors from m performance, and fluid. Power: I thought the stock m2 was slow. Also they are having a hard time getting alot of power out of the m2 without going with Port injection or meth and stage 2 turbos. So for getting power out of a car with just bolt ons and tune, at this point in time the 235 wins. Comfort: 235/240 is clearly the winner here. I had a m2 owner drive 6 hours in the car to a drag strip and said the suspension on sport + is much comfier than his m2 in any mode. This may be a big one for the wife, gf in your life. Overall: If your leasing, the m2 is never going to happen for a good deal. If buying, a used pre-owned 235 is a great buy. For daily driving, weekend sprinting the 235/240 will meet all your needs. If you are going to spend 20+ days at a track per year, i would go with the m2 if you have no plans on modding suspension. Final thoughts: That m2 CS will be a game changer with the s55, until then, i wouldn't get one. You have more options to choose from in the 235/40, and will be a better overall car. For 5k out of pocket, you can upgrade brakes, suspension, add a tune/fmic/intake and have a car that is better than the m2 in my eyes. It all depends on your priorities, and if you need to be part of the "m" club. I like blowing past m2's on track and dragstrips in a car that i built to my specifications. Either car will but a huge smile on your face and make your wife angry because of how low and small it is.

^^ I feel the same way, if you're into modding and conforming a car to your taste and style, the 2**i cars are the way to go. Plus, it doubles very well as a daily driver with the potential to be a track star, in "sheep's clothing". I always prefer the underdog approach, even though in most cases, it'll cost you more in the end..

from 2015 M235i Vert to 2017 M2 My 2 cents from m235i to m2 Fun part 1. m2 is a different type of animal in term of performance, sense of speed, engaging driving and thrilling experience 2. m2 looks much more aggressive and sharper in term of styling 3. m2 sounds much better especially with ESC off button on (those burble sound are amazing) 4. m2 rides and feels like a true Motorsport car, not half baked m enhanced car (this is both good and bad imo) 5. m2 is 100 percent track ready Not so fun part 1. m235i is a much better daily commuter, it is much more comfortable pretty much in every single ride comfort measurement. 2. m235i can be use as your only car where I can't declare the same statement to m2 3. If efficiency is your thing, m235i more efficient (235 vert was receiving 22-23mpg, m2 barely passes 20mpg) 4. m235i don't attract loads of random people that either wants to race you hard or stare at you like they are going to hijack your car. in conclusion if you can only have one car , I will definitely purchase m235i/m240i over m2, it is just a better commuter in term of ride quality. However if you have other commuters around (trust me you really need one after first 2 month of thrilling engaging driving,) m2 is a no brainer (assuming you can lock one up anytime soon). It's also amazing how much difference the wind screen makes. Windows up with that installed you can actually drive with the heat on down to about 50 degrees and it's pleasant. Run the risk of looking like "that guy" but that's a different issue.
