It should make the same change on the convertible as on the coupe. However, with the other sources of noise in a convertible, you may or may not hear it, but that path will be blocked, allowing you to chase down other sources for possible correction. The one convertible loaner I drove was noisy from seemingly several sources, though, so this might be a bit of a task.

I suspect you are correct, although I'd like to hear from others who have actually tried it on a vert.

After living with the vert for year, I'm guessing that the largest source of noise by far is the lack of sound insulation in the convertible top, and doing this is not going to cause any noticeable reduction in the overall noise level.

But if I'm wrong, I'm interested. The overall noise level with the top up is probably the most significant complaint I have with the car, especially given that I know the noise level could have been significantly lower with a better insulated top.

M240i door seals

Just replaced my '09 335i xDrive sedan with a new '17 M240i xDrive coupe (including H/K audio), and both doors on the M240i have the seals.

I have to admit, the road noise in the cabin is much higher in this car than I thought it would be. With new non-runflat tires I thought it would be quieter than my old car, but it's definitely louder to my ears.

Time to deaden the undampened panels in the back and doors, along with putting a better crossover network on the components in the doors. This, combined with an LOC/Amp for the subwoofers, and I think the sound will be greatly improved.

My 2017 240 convertible came with the door insulation. I don't notice excessive noise in the cabin, but I don't drive much on the highway or at higher speeds around town. Also, I drove an E46 M3 convertible for some years prior, so I may also be used to the compromise. I'm on 18-inch non-runflat tires and it's been mostly above 50 here in Atlanta.

I did it on my convertible this last weekend - I don't notice any difference. The only noise I really get seems to be coming from where the door shuts, just behind my left ear...

Installed this weekend on a 15 M235. For the past month, I have had a commute on a whining (tire noise) road and through a tunnel. For the first time in over 30 days, I was able to listen to my audible (Freakanomics) channel at four clicks (vol button on steering wheel) lower than previous 30 days. I usually have to crank it up in the tunnel due to echoing engines, etc, but today was much more mild than I have heard previously.

I also ride on Michelin A/S3 tires, if that means anything - but I have not changed these in over a year, so my ears are already attuned to them.

Thanks in advance

Installed these today and they definitely make a difference. Took about 15 mins to do. Got for $27 shipped from Brian at Sun Motors.

I put an order through the parts Dept at my local Escondido BMW dealer and they were $13/ea. I'll report back once I get them installed

Read the mixed reviews about adding these but am glad I did. I notice it is more quiet on the Fwy. Thank you!

Hey everybody... my second post here... I have been lurking on this forum for a long time..

Took my car in for some warranty work (Bmw od Arlington - Texas) and asked about the weather strips... mine were missing and they said all models come with it besides the M235. Bought them for 22 dollars each and they threw free installation.

My initial impression is about 30% less noise... esp highway speeds... worth the money for me.

I have a set on order. Having been a product planner at an automotive, I am fairly confident that these will have a beneficial effect. Basic product planning is to launch year one with the "best foot forward", year two is stable as engineering changes from launch year are made, and awareness/volume continues to build. But, it is also product planning 101 that cost reductions should be found and typically start mid-way through a cycle, such as year 3. For them to add cost and weight with "unsexy" parts in year 3 tells me these parts are addressing a concern and should make a noticeable difference in vehicle NVH.
Just got my car back on the road after winter storage and checked. I don't have any seals installed on my 2016 235 convertible. I noticed however that the PN's you list are different than the ones in the first post. Are they updated numbers?

I find it interesting the m235 doesn't come with these. I wonder what BMW's reasoning would be for leaving them off the M235? The other design/feature issue I question is why BMW chose to no longer include the ambient lighting in the lower dash area above the ashtray area after July 2015 builds as reported in another thread. You don't often see a manufacturer delete parts and features.

I have purchased the weather strips and plan to install them (unfortunately, they were a bit more expensive at my dealership), not so much as a noise reducer since I have a vert, but hopefully to reduce dirty water and grim slipping between the fender and chassis into the door area. We'll see it this accomplishes my goal.

Picked up my new M240i in late Feb and it has the "extra" seals.

A wild guess would be the fact that the M235 being their "perfomance" model needs to have more engine sound in the cabin... that is in line with the idea of having the ASD.. (which I'm getting coded out in a few hours)

Btw.. I do have the light above the ashtray.. I like it!

As it should, the M235 is the only 2-series model that does not.

It is really hit or miss. Reading through the entire thread, some 2 series come with the seals and some don't. There doesn't seem to have been a definite pattern in the past. I am the OP and mine came with only one which was on the passenger side. I do think it is worth the trouble if you want a quiet cabin on the freeway.

I have seen a few different part numbers listed in this thread, some have different prices. The ones that I bought which is listed on the very first post of this thread were the cheaper of the part numbers at the time, they all do the same thing.

I put the driver's side strip in a few days ago (the passenger side is on backorder, apparently ... should be en route soon). It makes a significant difference, particularly with tire noise -- and for those with audio upgrades like me, the strips make a better-sounding audio system even more worthwhile to have.

Whether or not you actually swap speakers, for right around $100 it's possible to make SIGNIFICANT upgrades to the in cabin sound. Disconnect center (free) add the ASD harness ($50 if memory serves) $25 in Dynamat and $25 for these foam strips. All things considered for a BMW where a screw will cost you $5 at the dealer, that is a big win.

One quick off topic question...Can I just unplug the center speaker to achieve the improved effect without changing anything else? Is there any truth to the rumor/theory/discovery that one of the rear speakers are out of phase from the factory?
Oh yeah, the seals keep the inside of my door jams cleaner :-)
