Locking the car without the key

I do not have comfort access. I live in the US.

Is there a way to lock the car without the key? I'd like to be able to exit and lock the car without the key but the button on the dash won't lock the doors if they're open.

If I leave someone in the car for a minute while I run into a store and they decide to come in later it's impossible for them to lock the car without a key. This is a problem even if you have comfort access. <edit - Passenger door can be locked.>

From what I can tell I have to press the button on the remote or stick the key in the door once I've exited the car. I must be missing something. Please help.

Can you not just push the manual lock at the end of the door, up by the window?

You need the key to lock the car from outside. It prevents you from locking the key in the car. Even with comfort access, the key has to be near the car to lock the doors from outside.

Pushing on the actuator doesn't work. Even if you pull on the handle at the same time.

With keyless ignition it's odd to need the key to lock the car.

Reading some other forums it seems this is by design to prevent lockouts. The passenger door, at least on older BMWs, will lock with the dash button when it's open. It's probably the same with this car.

If someone has a work around that'd be neat but I'll be fine.

Garage List
Get in passenger seat, shut door.
Press central locking button to lock yourself in car.
Double pull passenger door handle to open door so you can let yourself out.
With the door open, manually press the little lock down on the door.
Shut door.
You have just locked car without key.

NOTE. This does not arm alarm and this will not work on drivers door.
