The OP wrecks the car, many of us have been there in our youth... I know I have, it doesn't feel good. The OP said that the speed was 40mph before braking, it was in Sport+ mode and there was mud involved, beyond that it is pure speculation. The OP posts to tell the tale and gets all kinds of uninformed reasons why the accident might have happened, what would have avoided it and an underhanded racial slur. Nice. :

Hoonning the car on public road and flipping it is another. It's not an "accident" in this case. It's fortunate the car didn't roll on top of a cyclist or down the canyon. |

I think your cred has been blown in this thread, if I were you, I'd give up while your're ahead. Your previous comment speaks for itself.

Had he crashed into a car and killed a mother and two children would you still be sympathetic and on his side? |

I'm not sympathetic on his side. If he majorly screwed up then I will be the first one to be critical and place blame, but I wasn't there. I didn't read enough facts to nail anyone to the cross except for the twit making the racial slur.

But really, how many excuses are there for a single car crash? Except for the rare case of a major mechanical failure, they simply don't happen when a vehicle is operated in a reasonable and safe manner.

I agree with you completely. I just don't like to jump to conclusions and be too harsh on someone when I don't know all the facts. Notice the OP is long gone.

I drove same road last December on rented Camry.
The tightest turn that I can remember required me to slow down to about 35mph. It is hard to imagine that M235i can lose control at around 40mph so that must have been a very slippery patch of mud. I'm glad OP, passenger and other were not hurt. |

Knowing a road well is one thing..knowing a car you've only had 1 month is another. Glad you are okay. The car, imho, is toast. Flipping it back onto the rubber side is not going to help it much either; they don't come down slow. I'd hope they'd total it.

But a $50K car that thousands of people only dream about with 40 miles on the odometer*, and the OP is talking about braking zones on public roads, and then treating us to pictures of this dream car laying on its side. Anyone who's been there, please raise your hand. I'm curious. * OP said odometer read 40, but taken in context he probably meant the speedometer. Either way, the car was a month old.

I know those roads like the back of my history book. I have consistently drove 20 miles mph and have yet to face any imminent danger. Maybe when I feel adventurous enough, I might push it to 25 mph.

I'm glad to know that you and your friend survived the accident without major injuries. Sorry to see your car in that state. Since your okay I have to tell you, great photos, thanks for sharing.

Well, the most important thing is that you're alright. The car can be replaced. I've been in your position and it sucks. I wrecked my dad's truck during the first rain after a drought. Definitely no fun!

Except for the possibility of getting killed in the accident, killing someone else, and the financial consequences of this incident, this is most interesting (read: hilarious) thread I've ever read on this site. I ordered the 228i instead of M235i because of the possibility that I could much more easily get into trouble with 320hp on tap... Never mind the increased weight, increased gas consumption, and cost, lol. Unless you're a professional driver on a closed course, you have no business using Sport +. People drive in Comfort and Sport with DSC saving their asses when they don't even know it, time and time again. Sport + also has DSC activated but to a lesser effect. Letting the car loose and sliding on a road like that without full DSC intervention (assuming there is some traction at one or more wheels) can be catastrophic. I turned off stability control in my parent's Yukon XL during a snowstorm, spun in a circle, and landed in our neighbor's yard with only three tires still attached (thankfully still upright), lol
