Does a road bike fit in the back with the seats down?
Has anyone fit a road bike in the back of a 2 series with the seats down? This is one of the few deal breakers for me on my next vehicle purchase... Hate to go to the dealer and shove my bike in the back of it before I buy. TIA!

Yes. A road bike will fit with the front wheel removed and both seats folded. I've even put my 29er in the back.
That said, I just bought this No more stuffing my bike into my trunk. No permanent roof rack on my car. |

When I bike without my wife, I always put the road bike in the back with the seats down. You only have to remove the front wheel.
I have a BMW roof rack for when we bike together. |

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I just assumed the mountain bike wouldn't fit, glad to hear it will. Thank you!
Just sold my 2015 WRX. It was a great sedan but missing the tactile experience of a BMW. Now for the hard part... Alpine white or Estoril blue and then what interior??? To many options. |

I'm going with Mineral Grey over Terra but originally had an order in for AW over Terra. You can't go wrong, not a bad color on these cars!

What about adding a hitch? I like the ease of not removing the tires when I haul the bikes. Car is sitting on a ship right now, but that will be my first mod.

As others have said...definitely fits. I cycle very often and always put the seats down, take the front wheel off, put a towel over the bike and then wedge the front wheel over the bike nice and easy. Been doing it for years in 2 door BMW's.

If you have saddle height less than 74,5cm you can fit road bike in a trunk without folding down rear seats. I'll just take both wheels off, put the bike in and place wheels (in a wheelbags) on top of it.

Yes my 52cm Tarmac did without front wheel attached as well as my 17in S-Works single speed MTB. It got so annoying doing this 2-4 times a week I installed a modified 3 series hitch and got a hitch rack.

Did a One-Up USA rack like I had before, alum & light. It is 1.25 with an adapter to use with 2in if needed. The hitches for most cars are 1.25. Here is my install thread.

Often I carry two mtn or two road bikes. The trailheads are often along twisty mountain roads so getting there is half the fun!!
I am thinking of getting a 4 bike Thule for my new Chevy Colorado so I can haul two road bikes and two mtn bikes to our big May 6 Moab spring training weekend. |

I just couldn't see myself trusting the suction mount bike carrier.
Despite the video being impressive and all, I can't help thinking about the old Satnav suction mounts that always kept falling off the glass, and always at the most inopportune times. |

I wouldn't trust it either if it were a suction cup. It's a vacuum cup. You literally pump all of the air out from under the rubber pad. Once mounted, I can move the entire car with the rack. I know it looks scary, but you'd have to see it in person before you write it off as unsafe. I looked at this rack for a couple of years before I committed. They are very well proven at this point.
