428 Gran Coupe. Fits 2 bikes in it with the seats down. No muss, no fuss . I do like the Thule carrier. Keeps idiots from tapping your rear bumper when they park.

Does it flex the sheet metal on the roof at all?

No, but when I first got it I made the mistake of pushing down too hard on the pads while pumping the air out (it works by vacuum) and I flexed my roof down. It was not a problem, it popped right back. Lesson learned, you don't have to push down really hard (like you would with a suction cup) just put a little pressure on it while the pump takes care of the rest. The grip is unbelievable! I think most of the apprehension of this rack is the fact that it just looks like it shouldn't work. That's part of the reason it took me two years to actually buy one. To be fair, I've only used it a couple of times so far so I can't comment on long term durability. If I have a problem, I'll let you guys know.

Alpine F31 Any damage on the roof or any problems with the suction cups yet ?

I'm thinking of getting them as well but just a little apprehensive.

Get the real BMW rack. It just screws into the roof.

Yes, but where? Internet sources that I searched don't have it at all. I was thinking of having a machine shop cut my 528i crossbars down to the 228i width.

I got a 228ix vert so no roof rack. I also have an X3 with a bumper hitch which carries 3 bikes. No need to put anything on or in the vert but people.

Also no folding seats nor adequate trunk space for a road bike, I would guess.
