Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake
Here's another Dinan product for the M235i. I'm thinking of getting this.

Not sure about the Dinan, but several have gotten CEL with BMS intake. I had one on my X3 and it sometimes threw CEL. From what I've read it's pretty much a BMS issue and I think they've got some spacer or something as workaround, but it's not necessarily just a user error connection issue as almost impossible to screw up intake install, sometimes it's a manufacturing issue.

I somehow think that most of the cost of this is due to the apparent CF tube portion. The rest looks like an AFE conical high flow filter. In which case, this should have the same noise increase as noted with the BMS and AFE CAIs. Without changing the air flow into the box, I miss how these increase air flow over the drop in versions. Especially the covered ones like Dinan. The open version I can sort of understand (more air from surrounding areas), but not when it is sealed like the OEM box.

I promise this will not throw any codes. If it does take it back to the dealer.

Finally another mod from Dinan. I already the Dinantronics installed on my car. I wonder if this is a simple plug and play or does the car get re-tuned when the CAI is installed? anyone know?

Most of the other ones are 300-500 anyways. The only exception I think was the BMS intake, which would set of CELs because the plastic sleeve would warp.
People regularly spend upwards of 700-1000 on exhausts that do little else but sound. Besides, if you catch them in a sale when they are 20% off etc, its not that terrible. |

+1 does this typically happen during this time of year? If so I would order immediately.

Ordered mine at the end of April, and supposed to be here this Friday!
I'll be installing it this weekend.

Installed the AI earlier this morning. I took my time and completed it in just under 2 hours, but it's probably do-able in about an hour. I had to learn how to use a rivet gun, so that slowed me down a bit.
Instructions were pretty decent, but not great. At some points during the install, I had to "feel" around inside the tube (relative to the air box) to make sure I got solid contact before final assembly. Also, no error codes (so far). Dave

very nice, looks great. I take it you did not have to use the template and do any cutting to the bottom portion of stock airbox.
Are you running the dinan piggy back and which stage or just the CAI with no tune, or someone else's tune? Notice any difference sound/drive?

I'm not running any tunes, strictly the AI. It's claimed to add 10hp and 15tq, but to be perfectly honest, I didn't notice and have no way of verifying. Maybe it's there, but must be pretty subtle. I did notice a change in sound (I had the MPE installed at the port), but again nothing major really. A little more throaty, even in addition to the MPE. EDIT: the filter is oiled (at the factory) and is good for around 20k miles. Apparently you can clean it and re-oil, but would seem to me it would be quicker & easier just to replace. The replacement filters are $89. Also, Scott at Dinan was very helpful. I think he must've answered about a dozen questions I had.
