Don't worry about that. It will always sell (traded, wholesaled. auction, etc). 100% guaranteed.
But it will definitely take a major $$$ hit due to the recorded repair.
My 2003 Z4 which had $17K worth of repairs (due to being rear-ended) took an approx 30% value hit when I resold it - even though all the repairs were done by BMW with OEM parts.

Why would a car not sell with a brand new engine replaced at dealer? I don't get it.....if anything, that could be viewed as a positive thing.

Cars that don't sell are the ones that have been near totaled and fixed

Water is just bad - period. Engine aside think of all the electrical stuff that could be compromised. Modern cars are basically mobile computers at this point.

I'd actually try to find a vintage u-boat commander uniform but that has, um, political implications that are less than desirable.

In all seriousness I'd happily rock this logo on the trunk. Obscure enough not to offend anyone. WW2 German submarine coat of arms.

If there is lots of damaged and many systems are compromised, the car is salvaged with flood title. If water got in the engine and caused hydrolock, I don't see an issue.
I bought flood title car before (for business), was like brand new with zero issues, ECU was replaced.

Fair but you bought that at a serious discount I'm sure.

When in doubt safer to avoid entirely.

Yea my thoughts also.. New engine is great, vehicle semi submerged in water for a timely manner, not so great anymore..

Hopefully the OP can make good, from this. Hopefully they repair it and no follow up issues. Fingers crossed buddy

Not knowing your financial situation and depending on what they actually find wrong w/ your car (Major vs. Minor), you may consider negotiating a trade while the car is in for repair.

Since the dealer is doing the work and they will be doing the resale, chances are you may get much more as a trade-in w/ them than if you decide to keep it and sell or trade later.

Your car will have its highest value at the time it is repaired and ready for return to you. The longer you wait the more you lose. Chances are the dealership has a car in stock that they would be happy to sell and take yours in trade.

May not be the best of options, but one worth exploring.

my 228i was totaled with only suspension damage, insurance gave me MSRP for the car. i paid 7k less than MSRP so i actually came out with an extra 7k.

How many miles and how old was it that they gave you MSRP? What kind of coverage did you have that gave MSRP?

Not even close, it is a major negative and will detract largely from it's value.

I dont know whats better
minimal damage like 4-5k damage still declared at insurance and maybe run to problems later on
or
New engine at 25k
I think both situation are bad and equal in my book
Both are bad resale value

Maybe. We don't know what we don't know. Just need to wait. Hopefully the lesson here is don't ford rivers. If you can't clearly see the asphalt, go another way.

In any case, a lot of insurance companies around here will total any water damaged/hydrolocked cars no matter what. This is because they don't want any future liability exposure due to issues that could be related to the water damage that could surface at a later point in time. Not sure if it's the same in QC.
