+10000

F020/F021 leaves a bass type undertone. I have an aftermarket exhaust, upgraded amp (which amplifies ASD also) and speakers and the F020/F021 undertone is DEAFENING when I let off the acceleration... the drone was shaking the whole cabin. It was rattling everything and painful to the ear.

Thanks to you I have now coded to F006 and can confirm no more ASD! I also coded ASD off to aktiv in NU_HBT.

Thanks!! It took awhile, but I finally figured it out ... ASD sucks.

I coded F006 and no more asd. It's almost too quiet.

Has anyone tried simply disconnecting the ASD module? On the M5 this is all that is needed. No coding required.

Problem is the ASD I believe it's integrated with the amp. So if you disconnect it then no sound

I'd like to revive this thread.
Are you confident that the solution shown in the "M5" is not available in the 235i?

Also if coded out, do you guys think that the 235i is a quiet as the 228i after?

The reason I ask is I just test drove a 235i and 228i to replace my '06 325i. I really like the 235i except the ASD. It's just too loud for me on a daily basis. I'm around noise all day and just cannot deal with the volume and tone of what I heard in the 235i. But I like the 235i engine more that the 228's. I listened to the videos that bman6074 posted but it's difficult to tell the difference on my computer.

I can tell you from experience that it does make a difference. I didn't care for the extra noise when the Windows are up. That's why I turned ASD off in my car.

5DB is pretty noticeable. You think about that much? Or more? Or less?

From my experience turning off ASD does make it quieter in some ways. With ASD it always seemed to me that there was this low frequency humming sound from the car. It also seemed to me that ASD had some noise canceling benefits with it....can't confirm that though.

With ASD off you don't get that hum. When you get on the gas you do hear the actual engine and exhaust more though. Road noise seems to increase slightly too and I think that's from the noise canceling part being turned off.

I prefer to have ASD off after going back and forth with it a few times.

FYI for those with JB4 you can turn it off with your JB4 dash controls

Mmm not sure, never messed with different volumes of the ASD. I am not a fan of virtual sound. If it's not created by the muffler then I'll pass.

I meant comparing on and off.

I agree. I don't like the speaker sound at all.

That works but you will lose the radio too cause all is bundled together on the 2 series

try disconnecting it and see what happens

I like ASD lol. I don't want a quiet car. This is why I think I'll be okay with an exhaust that drones a bit like an AWE or a muffler delete. That said, once I get an exhaust I'll be disabling ASD.

Idk if it's been mentioned yet, but you can also get the ASD bypass harness that TechnicPnP sells. No coding needed and supposedly it removes some audio noise in cars with HK audio.

I'll take your word for it . I don't have the car yet anyway. I'll just have to figure out the coding thing if I opt for the m235i. Still considering the 228i with Msport. Decisions decisions. The worst part of the decision is that when I get back in my 325 e90 after the test drive I still really really like it. Maybe better than either 2. But that's another thread....

Thanks other posters. All the info helps.

There is a harness option that's like $100 or something like that that will disconnect only the ASD part

But you might want to code it instead as it's just $30 for the cable and you can also code other stuff

Yeah quiet car is the worst lol. After coming from s2k, m235 is just too quiet for me.

PS I am not even sure what I hear, car or ASD, but I like it. Of course I would prefer the real exhaust, but in reality does it really make a difference what makes that noise for you? Especially since you can code in other cars besides m235i.

I own a F30 328i, and I would love to have an ASD in my car (my 2013 hasn't got any). So if anyone of you have unplugged it and doesn't plan to use it I would gladly buy it from you for a reasonable sum and pay for shipping.

Please contact me via PM, thanks

I don't think it works that way :/ As in, ppl don't remove the unit they bypass it or code it out.
