It's just a rough idea as the tune and other accessories are not available yet, but a Stg 2/3 flash should be $2k or more, an oil cooler might also be required at $1.5k, along with a FMIC at $1k and a free-flow exhaust for another $1k. That's $5,500-6,000 in parts alone, plus installation costs at a Dinan authorized location, which isn't cheap in itself. All in all, you're walking away with $8k in parts in labor.

Dinan Software Upgrades are taking a slightly different path as you may have noticed on their site lately. They are now using a programmable module that that plugs inline with the ECU. Similiar to the Piggyback systems with the main difference being all the ECU subsystems can be reprogrammed without ever touching the main ECU code. This is very similiar to other devices on the market like the COBB AccessTuner, but with the main difference being the Dinan tuner has no customer interface and must be programmed by Dinan directly. COBB stopped making tuners for the newer BMW do mostly to the lockdown of the BMW ECU and not worth the engineering cost to develop a box such as Dinan's device.
By using an auxillary device for the ECU reprogramming the DME can be copied (flashed) to the auxillary device and changes made there. My hope is you can use the purchased tuner on your next BMW and save a little money by having it updated with the new model information. Haven't checked, but you might simply just need to disconnect the device to return back to stock programming. How new factory flashes get applied is a question, where as before the BMW dealer could copy and reload the Dinan software back on the ECU. |

As someone who has used Dinan products in the past, I agree that they are higher cost and less power than other tunes. If my car was out of warranty I would have a different take, but the risk of warranty issue over a few more $$ for the tune and a few less hp is not a risk I personally want to take.
(I had a Stage 2 tune with intake, exhaust and throttle bodies on my 2000 M Roadster.) The cost of the Power Package for a 135is is $2,878.20 and gets you 47 more hp and 65 lbs of torque. Does not include intake (perhaps not needed?)

They use crank HP as the "Stock Horsepower" on the website.. if that is the baseline, then is the advertised 364 at crank also? If so.. that would translate to lower at the wheels even.
If it is roughly 364 to the wheels (keeping in mind that stock is roughly 300) that is a again of ~60hp+ which is not too bad...
