Im waiting for the M2 going to start selling my toys and save up, as I can imagine it will be pricey. Probably will see the M2 at the 3-4 year of the 2 series life cycle or later. Who knows, just hope it looks similar like the m235 race edition posted a few weeks ago.

A slight boost in turbo doesn't equal M2, which is what they did with the Z4 35 vs Z4 35is. And look how much they are charging for that?

If they are going to do M2, they will charge a premium, not the price of a set of fancy wheels. They need to go through certification, do a bunch of press/marketing for a car that will maybe sell 1000 a year. If I were a BMW bean counter, that's not a good ROI. Maybe they will come out with a M235IS for people that want bragging rights?

Personally I LOVE the idea "let's separate the coupe and sedan models by adding even numbers to the the lineup, then we can add gran coupe models to the coupe lineups so we can have 4 door models of EVERYTHING!!!!" and by "love" I mean

I'm happy I bought the 1 I did....
I HEAR YA BROTHER, AT THE END OF THE DAY IT ALL COMES DOWN TO MARKETING AND $$$$$$$$

Love how you guys stressed about a few grand premium for M cars. Same thing happened with the 1M, we dream of 10-15% premiums for the same thing down here. The M2 will be $120k when, in a couple years, it come to Aus I'm sure, which will be circa $30k over a M235.

I'd imagine the M2 price, if built, will start in the $50k range. Just curious how many folks spend $50k on this thing and then bash the M2 when (or if) its released at a starting base.
If you think that makes "an almost M2" you are undervaluing what ///M will surely do, wider stance, DCT, brakes, cooling, suspension, diff etc. it's like saying the 435MSport with a diff and exhaust is almost an M4, nup.

You've sold yourself on the 235 right there Mr M.

Just saw the new Honda Civic coupe in Automobile. The 2 series looks more like the Civic coupe than the Accord Coupe. Bring back Chris Bangle. His work may have been controversial but at least it was unique. I think all the new BMW designs are Honda/Audi clones.

I think both comparisons for marketing sake are ridiculous (e82 and f22 to 2002). For the e82, I saw a comparison to the e30 as being potentially fair. For this f22, don't know yet.

This! I'm a little over bmw. Even the white leather book I received on purchase of my 135 compared it to the 2002 countless times.

Exactly--I got the book twice, once for each E82 I have had.

There is an entire dedicated section for the comparison to the 2002--I just don't know how many times they can do it...

Additionally, if the idea of the entry level coupe and ///M is to get younger people "into" BMW, then why the hell are they making this comparison? I am 35, so my experience with BMW really started with the E36 and my dad's E46 when I was in college. I had to look the 2002 up to know what it was...

I am not a marketing person, but a comparison to the E46 might "hit" more of the age range for which this car (the 2er) seems to be purposed.

I have to see one in person before I pass judgement. I thought the new Vette looked ugly in magazines and in person I was correct.

Interior material might be better but the radio still looks like it's the same. Not a fan of that.

I'm glad I bought a 2013 128, equipped the way I want it (6MT, M-Sport). I have time to wait all of this out, and see where the dust settles...Not that I wouldn't buy a 2er, but I just want to sit back and watch the dog and pony show.

Overpar- I was about to make a post similar to yours. Ill wait to see what the performance of the car is once its tested, that's the number one factor for me. Then, I'll wait to see the car in person before forming my opinion but overall, I'm not a fan of interiors that try to dazzle with lights and fancy designs that remind me of a pinball machine.I'll leave that to the audi's, an ergonomic minimalist interior suits me just fine.

The new Corvette is a hell of a car yet many C6 owners are squawking negatively about it. The new generation of every car hears the same type of bitching from earlier owners, its the nature of the beast.

I don't see the M2 starting at 54k. I also don't see it having 375HP as well. Maybe around 350-360HP.

The 1M base was around $47k. I'm sure the M2 will have a base of $49k.

Maybe I am unaware of this but when has BMW ever introduced a new gen model for $7k+?

Why not? DNA is DNA? Surely if the 1 series was the second coming of the 2002, then the 2 series (which, last I checked, is the successor to the 1 series coupe) shares that lineage.

Why must they be mutually exclusive?

BMW's Marketing should have disclaimers on their adds, stating "This car is equipped with an optional $1,900 limited slip differential"

Call me weird, but I prefer the 1 over the 2. The 1er looks so much more unique and has sort of a personality of it's own. The 2er just looks like any other modern BMW.

At least you are consistent in your relentless attack on the 2 Series. Given you just bought your 135is, I suppose we can expect that, but your unwillingness to even consider anything about the new 2 to be favorable gets a bit tiresome. I have a relatively new 135i, and I like it a lot, but I am at least willing to give the new 2 Series some credit for improvement over the 1 (such as the interior).

It's rather like the greatest attacks on the new M3/M4 come largely from recent E90/E92 M3 buyers. No one likes their choice to be made less by a new version. Too bad people cannot be a bit more objective.

But, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one.
