feeler: anyone up for European delivery trip in April 2015?

Hello all -

I'm looking at buying a car in February for European Delivery in late march / early April. I'm thinking spring time in Germany.

Does anyone want to consider coordinating their trip ? I'm thinking 2-3 of us would make a fun group ....

regards,

rob

I am thinking about doing ED sometime in Spring...cannot guarantee when. However, my tour would be primarily of France.

Germany requires cars to be equipped with all weather tires until April 15th, you would have to pay for the option if you take Welt delivery prior to. Plus I would not want to deal with snow/ice on my first days ownership. I'm planning ED in late April or early May, my Dealer said I need to wait until January to start the purchase order though.

A member just took delivery of his M3 post-Oct 15th winter tire date. Unlike Audi, BMW doesn't require that you leave the Welt with all season tires...they just warn you and offer a 3rd party winter wheel/tire rental service referral. That's what the other member did. I think if you pick up a car in early april, you'll probably be okay.

I literally just spoke with my CA this morning, he said he'd have to option the all season tires. This is from BMW USA web site

Only certain countries require winter tires from x to y date. Germany is not one. I believe Austria and Switzerland are, perhaps. Germany simply requires tires appropriate for the conditions... winter or all season tires while snow/slush/mud/black ice is on the ground.

That link still leaves the responsibility to the owner. There is no requirement that you have to order all seasons just because you're taking euro delivery during a winter month. Some people pay 70 euros to have the car transported direct from the welt to loginout and never drive in Munich. Some people chance it and get lucky with good weather and are fine to drive, or change plans when they get there to drop car off and take rail everywhere instead.

I would do a ED with ya'll if the deliver is around middle of May and beyond. I have class and I'm not going to skip school for a week to pick up a vehicle. That and I don't want to rent snow chains or tires when I pick it up.

I'm doing an April 20th delivery.

Germany requires all season tires from November 1st through April 15th. Or at least it's required to deliver vehicles with them between those dates.
