Yep, it's a Ford, I'll bet you have not driven a BOSS 302...?

I've owned a couple of BMW's including an M3, The BOSS 302 is more fun to drive than the BMW's I've owned, especially at/on the track...It's not just about price with me.

Far as refinement, neither brand is perfect but one is sure over priced for what it offers-->IMO.

I'm looking for a DD that will provide me with FUN (Thrills) the 2 looks like it might be as fun as a Go-Cart.

I really wanted a 1M for a DD, but things didn't work out in my favor, so I'm looking at the 2, but to be honest, it may not fit in my stable because there are other toys to consider in the 40-60K range that might fill the bill, but the 2 is on my list for a tryout.
You are right my friend I have not driven one. But I have sat in one. Cheaply make with poor materials. It may be fast as hell on a track but day to day use I feel it is a cheaply made car like most or all other fords made these days. Again this is just my opinion. It is completely fine if you disagree. We can all enjoy the cars we choose to buy.

I have nothing but respect for Ford and it is great to see them use the M3 as a benchmark but at the end of the day a Ford is just that a Ford.

228 Active Hybrid

I've been thinking that a 228 active Hybrid might be pretty cool.
- The 4 cyl would be light and balanced
- A torque boost from the electric motor would mask any turbo lag.
- The 4 cyl would get good gas mileage, at least better than the 6 cyl active hybrid.

If they make an active hybrid (AH) for the 2 series, it will be more similar to the 235, as that how it's been for the 3, 5 and 7 series AH.

But that brings me to my next point - I don't think BMW has made an AH for the coupes to date, so I wouldn't hold my breath on this.

I have to agree that the 228i is a better deal. The M235i is loaded with options that I personally do not want (sunroof, adaptive dampers, variable sport steering), so it is easier to get a car closer to my liking. Also the N20 has more than enough power already, and it is lighter at the front end and should be more nimble as a result.

Currently in an E90 335i (N55), and looking forward to a 228i when they become available. Surprisingly, I won't miss the N55, though I still miss the N52 which I had previously.

Is the N55 really that bad? What is it that you dislike about it? I thought is a more reliable N54 but with less modding options

My gripes with the N55 are mostly related to the throttle and the engine drone. There's always a delay before any throttle action registers, either when applying the throttle, or lifting off. The second annoyance with the throttle is the map. It's completely non-linear. 25% pedal travel feels like it is 75% throttle. A friend who has the COBB tune mentioned that COBB do a linear throttle, which is a lot nicer, but stock is awful. These two combined make driving a manual transmission a chore, not a pleasure.

My other hate relates to the E90 exhaust. The drone from 1800-3000 rpm is horrible when under load is wearing, and it's right in the everyday driving range. Luckily it's quiet on the highway. For the rear drive E90 N55 BMW did not include secondary cats, and there is no resonator, just a fairly straight pipe and 2 mufflers, and I think this is the cause. Apparently it's supposed to be like that.

My car may be a one off, but I have test driven an F30 335i, and there was much less drone, but it still would drone, so maybe it's inherent. My final complaint is that it doesn't even sound great at high revs compared to a BMW inline-6 of old.

I will try a 235i, but I doubt I will go for one as I think I am more suited to the N20.
