PCD Flight Options - NJ to SC (+mini intro)

Hi all!

After almost two years of research and waiting, my delivery schedule has come together suddenly. I sent my first email inquiry 1/28, ordered 2/4, and got my PCD date of 4/22 on Wednesday. Production is scheduled to finish Friday.

I started looking at flight options to GSP and it's a little scary. All the options from Philly have major drawbacks. I was honestly expecting something similar to a Megabus schedule.

Now, there is one direct with good timing and price from Trenton to Charlotte that would only require an Uber from CLT to the Marriott. The problem is - the Performance Center warns not to book any travel until 3 weeks out from delivery. I could get lucky with some last minute awards flights opening up then, but I could also get stuck.

Has anyone had one or multiple date changes for their PCD? I am considering booking the flights anyway and looking at it as a risk cost of only %chance date change*$180 tickets.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated!

I searched and looked through some FAQs and didn't find this minor PITA of the delivery process mentioned.

I'd probably disagree with going to CLT. It's a hour and a half drive to the Marriott. Why drive almost as much as you're going to be flying? There are plenty of flights into GSP from Philly with a connection for around $220. You're going to spend 12 hours in the car driving home. I would just take the simpler option and fly to GSP and let BMW pick you up at the airport. As far as cost goes, you just bought a $50,000 car and BMW pays for the rest of the experience. Get the plane ticket that makes your life the simplest.

While I don't disagree with the concept of paying a little extra for convenience, the connecting options from Philly are at least 5 hrs travel time. I'd have to take the day or leave early and still get in later. The ticket that makes life simple is AA direct for $1100, which I don't consider a little. Going to CLT, it's ~$350 with an Uber or $200 if my uncle can pick us up for 4 hrs max travel.

There's differing schools of thought on the surrounding and marginal costs of a large purchase that I don't think needs rehashing; I wouldn't say I pinch pennies, but I'll keep hold of a dime.

Um, maybe I'm missing something, but Expedia has flights from Philly to Greenville for $191 plus whatever fees on 4/21/16. 5 hours of travel time. What exactly is the drawback there?

I have to agree. Greenville is a small airport in the grand scheme of things. You are going to have to connect through a hub - most likely Atlanta for Delta or Charlotte for USAir. That's just the way it is.

That flight is at 8 am and it actually is saying only 1 seat left at that price. I use Google flights so I have been through most every option.

Trenton -> Charlotte works best for me. I'm wondering what the general experience is with PCD dates shifting once initially assigned.

I see. Well, my date shifted because I requested an earlier date. My original date was 3/21 and I got it moved up to 3/9, so it looks like they build in some amount of padding into the date assignment. I only knew that I could do that because I read where someone else on the forum had done the same. Hopefully that helps shine some light on their process.

This is my first PCD, so that's the extent of my experience. FWIW, I've not heard of anyone's PCD date being moved back or moved at all without their request.

I did see elsewhere you were able to push yours up once the car got moving, which added to my comfort level.

I also don't know if I was clear above that my prices have the cost of my guest built in.

Okay, so ~$350 with uber, ~$200 with uncle, or ~$440 flying into Greenville?

I'd feel bad making my uncle drive, so that would eliminate that for me.

It's a no brainer for me. I like getting off the plane and being there. NO need to fly, then drive 90 minutes. The PCD process is just so seamless. You land, call the hotel, and they come in 10 minutes curbside with a BMW to drive you 5 minutes to the hotel.

I agree, but it's not my money. To each his own I guess.

I'm not at the point yet where I can burn $800 without thinking twice.

I have no problem with a 90 minute ride in exchange for saving that amount or the vacation day.
