I'm OK with that.
The M2 is technically a modern day E46 M3 equivalent. Similar wheel base, weight, but more power. I thought that was the goal of the M engineers.

that would be 100 lbs more than the 1M.... I just can't believe it will be that heavy.. also can't really see it being that close to the M4...

I expect the weight of the M2 to be the same as the M235i.
Some parts of the M2 a lighter, some parts are heavier.

I dont see any chance für 100lbs less. Maybe 20.

The M2 is the entry level M with the lowest price. It does not make sence to make it too good!
There is also the profit margin in the background. No space in budget for CF and so on.

The M2 is a M235i with more power and improved brakes and chassis and a more sporty transmission, not more.
Lower your hopes.....

I think more and more about a second hand Cayman GTS (about 1 year old).

One think more. In Germany the first B58 340i are on the road. Owners report it's a much improved engine compared to the N55.
Revs more freely, more direkt throttle response, less fuel consumption. So it's a little bit disapointing that the M2 does not get a tuned B58.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. The 2er is heavier than the 1er to start with, so that's where most of the weight gain will come from.

When I drove the M235i, it didn't feel THAT heavy to me and those cars at the Performance Center were more or less fully loaded. Definitely heavier than my E36, but also much lighter than my E92. Which is OK by me

M2 CSL will be the special one, lighter and more track focused!
Maybe with a power upgrade too

the M3/M4 suspension is lighter. the control arms will feature more aluminum... not sure if the M235 has the solid mounted subframe... the wheels will be larger overall but more than likely overall they are still lighter.. Same with things like brake rotors ...

The weight savings from the 135 to the 1M was on the order of about 77 lbs IIRC.. So I would expect a little more of the same here..
100 pounds aint much.. but give credit where it's due..

ok gang.. I am trying to find some consistent figures...

I show that the 1M curb weight is 3296 lbs.... 77 less than the 135
135 curb weight is 3373 lbs

I also see figures that the M235 curb weight is 3535 lbs....

The article released today seems to have confused some specs... it mentions a weight loss off 77 lbs from M235 to M2..
oddly the 77 lbs figure is the same for the 1M to 135... but that does not make for a curb weight around the reported 1495 kg.... ?

It appears Auto Express are quoting the DIN weight and then comparing it with the M235i EU1 weight by mistake and thinking it has a 35kg weight loss.

I expect when the official press release is out, the M2 will have a DIN weight of 1,495kg, which is 1,570kg EU1 (DIN +75kg for the driver).

The M235i EU1 weight is 1,530kg. So the M2 appears to be 40kg HEAVIER than the M235i.

The M2 in Euro spec will be 3,461lbs.

Sorry to rain on your parade again, but I think you missed this from the other thread:

So:

M235i = 1,455kg (DIN)
M235i = 1,530kg (EU1)

M2 = 1,495kg (DIN)
M2 = 1,570kg (EU1)
The 1570 kg weight matches what a German news outlet, Auto Motor Und Sport, published here: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...e-9996541.html

This means that, if you compare the correct weight figures, the M2 is actually 40 kg, or ~88 lb, heavier than the M235i.

WOW. Thanks. Yeah. that's like a MONSOON.. do you have those same figures DIN and EU1 for the 1M..?

I fell like I am still seeing 1495 for the 1M ?

As far as I can tell, the 1M figures are:
DIN: 1495 kg
EU1: 1570 kg

So if these numbers are correct, the standard EU-model M2 will weigh the same as an EU-model 1M. This would mean that the M235i is actually lighter than the the old 135i Coupe, then?

It will definitely be interesting to see the US curb weight numbers.

Why do they have to make it so hard? Politicians have to mess everything up don't they...just weigh the car with all fluids and full tank of gas. There done...see how easy that was?
