Great work. I don't think I have seen any other car create as much hysteria as this one. The wait is unbearable. Do it right BMW for gods sake.

great post

Reflectors inside of the rear bumper vents, like the X5M/X6M look terrible, if they do include them I hope it's an easy fix

+1 Easily my least favorite visual aspect of my 235.

Artemis, hell of a summary thread, great idea making this. - we made it to the front page with this discovery It's time for more people to hop on the M2 hype train.

Front Bumper [Check]
Rear Bumper [Check]

Next we must target the front fender vents, hood, side skirts etc... which I am currently assuming will continue to replicate those on the Vision Concept.

What's really been figured out here... is that this car will resemble the Vision GT6 Concept more than anyone initially thought. When Scott said that, he really meant it. Push out the rear vents, modify the racing proportions... and there it is. The M2.

Geneva, please, please, PLEASE show this car!

Otherwise I will continue to dream over this car with my fellow bimmerpost members... I was a lurker for most of my time on here, but now that I started joining in on discussions, I want to say that you guys are all awesome.

Instead of a vertical reflector they could put a vertical vent in the rear bumper, like the M4.

There is a very good chance that the M2 will not feature those "mini vents" like the M4, the larger rear vents will get all of the attention.

Look at the back of the X6M. The rear vent of the M2 will be like these, except more exaggerated, and stem down to the bottom of the bumper, like on the GT6.

Basically, there will be no need, nor space, for smaller vertical vents. Those are essentially being replaced.

I see what you mean however, and if they are there, I would hope the same.

Crossing my fingers too that they keep the side vents clear.

AFAIK, these small slits M4 reflectors were already sitting at the same spot on the M4 prototypes (small slits). Unfortunately X5 M and X6 M prototypes featured the same rectangular reflectors as we now see on the latest M2 prototypes.

IMHO it would be a design mistake for BMW M to fill the side vents with red reflectors à la X5 M and X6 M. Keep those vents as dark as possible. On an X5 M or X6 M, fair enough. But please refrain from implementing this 'gimmick' on a nimble, low sitting high performance car that has quite some potential to become a halo car. It ain't no 2er Active Tourer M...

2 series (m235i coupe)
Rear track : 61.3in (1557mm)
M3 Sedan
Rear track : 63.2in (1605mm)

So the ///M2 may not get the aggressive flared fenders of the ///M3 by way of that aggressive stance, but there will be some major accommodation made considering the ///M3 rear track is 63.2in, full 1,9inches more than that seen on the m235i
I guess we still don't know for sure how aggressive the M2 rear fenders will look, but as you mention, we can predict that they will be significantly flared.

First, a couple of rear track width data points to add:
135 - 58.9"
1M - 60.7"
e9x M3 - 60.6"

Assuming that the amount of rear fender flair is a result of stretching the base car's body to accommodate the wider rear suspension components of the respective donor M car...

435i - 62.8" ---> 63.1" M4 = 0.3" stretch, for a minor fender flair
335i - 61.9" ---> 63.1" M3 = 1.2" stretch for a fairly significant fender flair (4x the amount of the M4)

The 1M received e9x M3 suspension components (which is why the published track widths of the 1M and the e9x M3 are roughly the same), so...
135i - 58.9" ---> 60.6 e9x M3 = 1.7" stretch, for quite a pronounced fender flair

By this logic, assuming of course that BMW uses the F8x suspension components in the M2 as they did (with the e9x M3) in the 1M, then...
235i - 61.3" ---> 63.1" f8x M3/4 = 1.8" stretch, for another quite pronounced fender flair

The only questions are, (1) will they in fact use the M3/4 suspension components and geometry as predicted (and as they've done in the past with the 1M) and (2) how will they shape/radius the fenders? From the test mule spy pics, it appears as though they are taking a more conservative-looking (refined?) approach than they did with the 1M. Depending on the angle though, they still look very aggressive - can't wait to see the official production version.

Here's what SCOTT26 commented earlier this week:

Hoping that there will be some cool exposed pop-rivets.
For that hard-core racy look.

You can see a line of rivets under the rear fender cammo in this shot:

Fingers crossed BMW makes the M2 something everyone that can afford it can buy. I fear how closely it treads to the M4, that won't be the case. I hope I'm wrong.

Artemis - thanks for your efforts in pulling this together.

If the production M2 looks half as good as it is shaping up, and is LIGHT, this is going to be the best M car in quite some time.

Thank you for the post Artemis. I hope it looks like this render with the boxy styled frame!

I have been off the forums for a while, can someone enlighten me as to where this http://www.2addicts.com/forums/attac...8&d=1423009834 render is from?
