Will you put your M2 on the track?

I have been following the M2 forum discussions religiously for the last 4 months. I have learned a lot about BMWs in general and I am the owner of a great little 2007 328i and a 2008 911/997.1.... I am number 4 on my dealers list for an M2 (Black w/DCT if I get my way)

I have always had a need for speed and I hate to see a fine sports car poking along in the right lane....I have driven the Autobahns from 1999-2007, but I am a respectful driver on public streets.

With all the discussion about the need to haves and the horsepower requirements and the weight and the so ons and etcs....

Are you all going to put your cars on the track to really drive them? I have over a thousand laps at Mosport outside of Toronto and have loved every one of them. Only on a track can you use all the cool stuff that we have all been talking about..... what do you say? meet me at the track?

We shall see if I pick up an M2 or not... but I would love to get my 1M up to Mosport some day... if you can organize a double event wrapping two weekends with Mosport and with Trois Rivere or with Calaboogie... let me know! I would make the drive!

the obvious answer on the M2 would be yes..

Hey Adjuster, i have followed some of your threads....i just joined the BMW club in Ontario
(Trillium) in anticipation of my M2...as a member of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Upper Canada Region (UCR) many of my Porsche club colleagues do double time with Trillium. It would be great to join forces for a special event like this... I will certainly have my M2 at the track.

Dear Legend,
Man I am sorry for my mistake, really sorry if you are losing sleep over my Bimmerpost mistake.... I scoured all 10 pages of posts to personally apologize to my BMW friends for wasting their time with my post.

sorry to Ring Meister for duplicating his post of "Tracking the Beast", sorry for any infringements.

I didn't see the other threads that you are speaking of, but i trust you will forward me the rest of the done to death treads so i can also apologize to them.

At what point does you 4000+ replies give you the right to be the Bimmerpost Bully?
Hope you got rested up

Lol sensitive much.

You said you'd been following the M2 boards for months but didn't see various threads on an identical subject or bother to search. Chill out.

So congratulations on your position in the queue. 4th should come up pretty soon, although it will be frustrating to see others roll out the door. If you're going to be tracking it are you keeping to a min spec, will this be your DD too?

Yep, sometimes feeling a bit touchy, thanks for your reply, I feel better already

Will still be a DD for sure, I don't intend to go overboard with Mods, but I do run a set of Sport Cup 2s for the track....done right I may put some triple 8s on a set of OZ wheels that I can swap between the Porsche and BMW for added grip.

2 Things

1) yeah, some people can come off as dicks because they live and breath here. Nature of the internet.

2) Wow 1000 times at Mosport? I don't think you need to join the Trillium BMW club - or at least as a student! You'd be in instructor for sure with that much experience. Maybe you could be my next instructor and I can get a ride in your M2 during the instructor laps

1000 laps in any track in this world would make you an expert and should not need to think twice taking any cars onto any track at any given time (well maybe not when a typhoon or storm hits the area).

To answer you question, yes anyone should definitely take their m2 to tracks.

If/when I get an M2, I'll put my N54,135 on the track.

....1000 laps, not 1000 times, but i think we mean the same thing.
Instructing is a bit different than just being an accomplished driver... I do think I am an accomplished driver and have a goal to hit Watkins Glen and maybe Mid-Ohio next year.

I am on the fence between an M2 and M4, I will likely go with the M2 if it is what I expect it to be in terms of driving dynamics. Regardless of which one I go with I plan on doing several track days each year.

Absolutely.... both directions.

A number of people from your chapter were considering coming to TX last year for the texas Trifecta...

I believe that some of the owners cancelled.. but we will be back at COTA again next spring in April !

With the right group I will track my car. I will have to watch a few clubs do their thing and make sure they are not taking any silly chances that result in contact. My area has many options.

Disagree.

I've driven nearly a dozen tracks around the country, and I have over 1000 laps at my current "home track" alone. I consider myself a very good driver, able to sense and manage oversteer/understeer conditions in traffic, but I still don't consider myself an "expert" on track.

Many legitimate tracks can be lapped in around 2:00, allowing for ~10 laps per 20 minute session. With even most conservative track days offering 5 sessions, a driver could easily drive 50 laps in a good day of driving. 20 track days doesn't make an expert.

The right driver with the right instincts/background and a mature attitude can safely drive with the big boys after 20 track days, but I'd be extremely hesitant to think 20 track days will make even half the drivers out there experts.

Not questioning the OP's driving record; this is just a general observation that while 1000 laps sounds like a lot, it isn't.
