I agree that it's not really a "de-tuned S55" because of the turbo setup alone, but about the different bore/stroke: I keep reading that and always thought it was the case given the M4 revs much higher. There are many articles claiming it, but then also other articles claiming the opposite.

So I just went to the official BMW page and under technical data for the M4 it says: 89.6/84.0 (stroke/bore) ...which is exactly the same as the N55.

I'm confused now.

But if the S55 and the N55 indeed share the same bore and stroke, I have an idea where they might have gotten that closed-deck cylinder block from.

To add further confusion:
The official M3 / M4 tech spec post here on Bimmerpost mentions the changed bore/stroke over the N55 but the full press release included in that post doesn't mention anything about it.

The official BMW S55 training manual says 84/89.6 too and a 2979cc displacement and not what Bimmerpost claims in their spec sheet.

Edit. If you look at the specifications for the M3/M4 it also says 84/89.6. So the tech thread you used is just wrong I guess.

Sold the 335 when I still thought the M2 would arrive in November. My mistake, so needed a cheap ass ride for shitty weather.

Such a typical Swede. At least you aren't driving a SAAB.
I've actually always wanted an 850R wagon. such cool cars.

I hate SAAB as everyone should, I live in Gothenburg (home of Volvo) so it means I bleed Volvo!

Ah, okay. Well, make the best out of it and install some fat turbo setup.
