Here in NY a VIN has not been required in the past, so unless there's a new(ish) law I don't know about. . .

California is an outlier I'm guessing. Just in terms of contract common law, a VIN should not be required, so each state would probably have to enact a specific requirement that a VIN must be in an auto sales contract.

Do you know of any other states that have such laws?

Seems you may be right though I wouldn't know how long the contract is enforceable and it seems rather odd that some states would allow the sale and binding contract for a good that may be unattainable regardless of whether your order is considered unique or not. I mean if I enter into a contract for a car with X options and it sinks into the ocean on the way, I wouldn't give the OK for a replacement car with similar options that has been test driven for three months at another dealership to be penciled into my non specific contract.

It depends on where you live. The dealerships in my area have multiple M235i on the lot and available to test drive.

Put a refundable $500 down on an M2 for Sept/Oct Euro Delivery. First on the list at a dealership in WA. They agreed to euro delivery MSRP as well.
I have a bad feeling the internet sales manager said I am first on the list, but is unaware of another list. Seems too good to be true to be #1 at this point....

Congratulations! That's sounds terrific. If this is their first car .. then the second would be much later. Funny how people keep thinking these cars will be all over the place at dealer lots.

Any body here from the Austin area?
I was there for work today and dropped by the dealer just to see what their wait list looked like. My jaw dropped when I was told 50 people are on their wait list.... Wow.

When you look at all the development and time that went into this car, the fact there are 30 pre production units here in the states, I do not know why anyone thinks this car will be limited or any harder to come by than a m3 or m4.

The 1m was a very limited car thrown together at the last minute with minimal testing and configuring. This is not a 1m, the m2 is prob a permanent part of the lineup, just like m3 m4 m5 m6.

Granted there is some pent up market demand here, but that should dissipate within 6-8 months.

No deposit required when i asked. As far as waiting lists, there is not a central one. GM talked to all sales people no inquiries on M2. Now waiting for the official release to see if i will order one. Maybe nothing special will be about this car after all..

Dealer told me the other day they were going to start at $20K over MSRP, unless the M2 is not limited production. HAHAHAHAHA! No thanks.

PS- SoCal dealer, happy to wait for 2017 models for decent price.

No deposit! I got my 1M for msrp from here, going to have to get the M2 under msrp or I will have to pass.

Curious what dealer. Would you mine sending me a PM. I talked to Seattle and they claim they have 10 deposits at 5K. Got down to talking about guaranteed sale at MSRP and they went radio silent. Would love the contact at your dealer.

I just put down $500 (refundable) and I am number 3 on some list at my dealer. and that pricing was subject to availability. But they may charge over MSRP.

DC / MD / VA Dealerships

Anyone in the DMV area have any preferred dealerships? I got mine from BMW of Fairfax and would be THRILLED to find another place to shop...we're lucky to have so many in the area.

Also curious what any of the M2 wait lists look like around the area...

Thanks all.

B.

Super laid back and very easy process. Took my name down, discussed some M2 rumors, and made plans to start chatting once firm information is released and if I decide to go M2 or M3 route.

And then there is the Cayman...
Those are my car options as well.

I'm local over here in chesapeake. You live around the beach area?

Casey is always my go to.

Both with refundable $1k deposits. Both know that I plan an ED in Sept/Oct (Oktoberfest!)

I am #2 at BMW WEST Houston. No ordering information available yet. I have a signed purchase order that the car will not be priced above MSRP and my intend is to do an Euro Delivery. Will post more info when I have more detail with this PO combo
